DENNIS GEORGE ROSS
With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Dennis George Ross of St. Clements, Manitoba on January 17, 2022. Dennis was born on May 3, 1938 in Winnipeg.
Dennis leaves behind his wife Lily (his Diamond) of 63 years; his children Douglas, Linda and Chris (Pierre); granddaughter Heather (Kyle); grandchildren Derek and Chelsea (Lucas); their mother Jill, and his great-grandson Logan, and family friend Gary. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne and extended family in Ontario. He was predeceased by son Grant and parents George and Florence Ross.
Dennis retired from Manitoba Hydro after 37 years of service. Dennis took great pride in the home that he designed and built on the Red River. He enjoyed spending time caring for his yard and garden with Lily at his side. He loved to spend time in his shop woodworking and creating things for his family. Dennis was a very kind and generous man who always enjoyed a good diborja. Friends were always welcome for fishing, and bonfires on the shore and he especially loved his holiday family dinners.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Grace Hospital ICU Department for their care and compassion.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an animal rescue of your choice.

To Lil & Family..Everybody has said everything good that could be said about Dennis,, a wonderful man, and friend, and I was very priviledged and fortunate to be his & Lil's neighbor. Dennis took exceptional liking to my parents as they did to both of them, which showed how much he respected people ,no matter what age. He is now in good company, I love you Dennis and always think about you, even from afar. I couldn't have found a warmer person to enjoy my time with. Love you Lil,,I know that he leaves an emptiness that will never be able to be filled. - Posted by: Marvin Danko (Friend &Neighbor) on: Feb 07, 2022

Lily and family; My most sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Dennis. Although we had left a long time ago, I always (and always will) considered Dennis to be one of my very best friends. Dennis will leave a huge void in everyone's life, because of his larger than life personality. I know there wasn't a single person in his life that didn't admire, respect, or just outright enjoy being around both Dennis and Lil. I am deeply saddened at the loss. Diborja Dennis, time for a zimna pewa. - Posted by: Gord Lawson (former coworker and friend) on: Feb 04, 2022

My condolences to Lily and family on passing of Dennis. It has been a great pleasure to have known and worked with him for so many years. He was such a great mentor, teaching how the Manitoba Hydro network system worked. He always entertained us and taught us several Ukrainian words (that I still use once in a while), or the nick names for the various ‘characters’ we all worked with! The annual skidoo weekend at their cabin at Star Lake was always a highlight of the year. Taking the inaugural voyage of the ‘star cruiser’, on a APDA trip to the States was a great time! Dennis was also a very talented man outside of work, having built his own house with a wooden basement. Dennis will be truly be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with you! - Posted by: Mark Desjardins (Friend/Co Worker) on: Feb 02, 2022

Sorry for your loss Lil. Worked with Dennis for 7 or 8 years in the control centre at M.H. Been to your house many years ago. I remember Dennis showing me his tractor collection. Very neat. He also gave me your recipe for mustard. He called it Diamond Lil's mustard. - Posted by: Jim (Co-worker) on: Jan 29, 2022

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Lilly and the family. My wife and I met Dennis and his family 22 years ago. We had purchased a cabin at Star Lake and soon after our families bonded. Dennis was my go to for many years. His kindness and calm being always kept me grounded when I came to him for help or advise on any thing going on. We often would have a short diborja and trade life stories as well as solve issues of the day. Lilly would always be close by, she loved to be close and share in the laughs and stories. We share in your sadness. Bert & Deb Star Lake, Top if the hill gang. - Posted by: Bert denOuden (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2022

Our deepest condolences to Lily and family. I first met Dennis when I started as a trainee in LDO in 1981. He was one of the most kindest, friendliest and knowledgeable person that I have had the pleasure of knowing. I always looked forward to seeing big Dennis whether it was at work, a Star Lake retreat, any Hydro gathering or the old guys breakfast meetings. He made work fun with all his nicknames for everyone and his outgoing personality. A genuinely great guy who will be missed by all who knew him. He was always willing to help out & as a matter of fact he helped me purchase one of my first cars. He was a gentle giant with a great sense of humour & I loved the nicknames he gave everybody in the office. Dennis will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Glenda & Vic Falkowski (Co-worker) on: Jan 23, 2022

Condolences to Liley and their Family. Dennis will be greatly missed. Did not see a lot of Dennis since retiring other than the odd Tue morning breakfast, You could not be asked for a better person to work with. I remember the days that he and Bill use to pick me up on the way to work and stopping at many places on the way home on evenings was usually very interesting. RIP Denis. - Posted by: Reg Gray (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2022

I worked with Dennis for 30 years on LDO (SCC) and a better person you couldn’t work with. He taught me the ins and outs of the power system ( he was the expert) and was a great mentor. He hosted great “stress relief” getaways at his cottage at Star Lake, and I attended whenever I could. I’ll always miss his “Ukrainian lessons” and the fact that everyone he knew was given a more appropriate name ! My deepest condolences to Lily and family. - Posted by: Ed North (Friend/co-worker) on: Jan 22, 2022

So sorry to hear of Mr. Ross's passing. I have so many fond memories of the whole Ross family as we were neighbors for some 15 years on Cameo Crescent. One of my favorite ones is when Mr. Ross would take us for Skidoo rides around their yard. Just looped around, musta been before the pool was put in!!! It was somewhat of a comical moment when Mr. Ross went to sell that same SkiWhiz that he tooled us around on. As everyone knows he was a very tall, strong man. When he went to pull the cord to start the machine for the prospective buyer, who was unfortunately standing behind Mr. Ross at the time, he punched the buyer right in the face!!! He still made the sale!! I will always have the vision of Mr. Ross behind the wheel of their Ford Pinto. He looked like a giant in there!! Almost had to sit in the back seat to drive it!! His size 15 cowboy boots took up most of the bank landing of the Ross house!! Mr. Ross had a nickname for everyone, most of them quite humourous!! My Dad was Big K. Hearing the word diborja again sure brought back memories and Mrs. Ross saying she was getting peeonee or however you spell that :) We used to take sips out of every bottle on their well stocked bar back in the day! Quite a few of the old friends have gone before you Mr. Ross and they will have a beverage waiting for you. I send my condolences and best wishes to the whole family, Love Paula - Posted by: Paula Husmann (nee Kowalker) (long time friend and neighbour) on: Jan 22, 2022

I met Dennis a few times in person, but the greatest impact he had on myself was being at the other end of the line when the system was in disarray and Dennis was at the helm at Load Dispatch. He helped many many line types get the job done with a lot less muss and fuss because of his calm demeanor. I always knew things would work out right when I hear Dennis was guiding us. Rest in peace Dennis. - Posted by: Bob Crawley (Co Worker) on: Jan 22, 2022

I worked with Dennis at Manitoba Hydro. A big guy and one of the nicest persons I have ever met. A guy liked and respected. He was straightforward, honest, humble and authentic. Dennis was good at his job and fun to work with. Dennis taught us all how to speak Ukrainian. He gave us all nicknames, that stuck. Quite a loss. - Posted by: Blaine Poff (Co-worker) on: Jan 22, 2022
