DONALD HUGH COWAN
August 9, 1946 - January 7, 2022

Donald Hugh Cowan died peacefully on January 7 at the age of 75.
He will be missed by his wife Marisa Hernandez Mora; children, Lesley and Ian; brother Earl; sister Valerie Cloutier; and many relatives, friends, and former students.
Born in Montreal, Don grew up with his parents, Mildred and Hugh, in Transcona, where he taught after graduating from the University of Manitoba. He married Susan Henley, and Lesley and Ian were born. The family lived in Minnedosa where "Mr C" was a popular teacher whose elaborate papier-mâché projects were the envy of the school. One year his students created their own coats of arms accompanied by a motto: his was "Be Interested in Things", and he was. After retiring Don began traveling to Mexico where he met Marisa. They married in 2017 and divided their lives between Morelia and Manitoba, where their destination was Don's beloved cabin at Nora Lake in the Whiteshell.
Don's cancer diagnosis introduced an unwelcome new adventure, one that he faced courageously and creatively. We're sad that he's gone.
A small Celebration of Life has taken place. Please visit the tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com to read and share your memories of Don.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I send my condolences to Donald's family. I remember Donald well from family gatherings in the 1960's and 1970's. Football games at George and Ellen's farm and ghost stories Don used to tell my brother and I down at the lake just keep us up all night. X-mas dinners at his parents where we all crowded around the small dinner table. I last visited with Don in 2019 and he was great to be with. I know that the cottage was a very special place for him. We kept in touch through the years and he will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Allan Brewster (Cousin) on: Jan 31, 2022
