JUSTINA LEMKY
It is with great sadness and mourning that we report Justina Lemky passed away at 6:57 a.m. on the morning of January 24, 2022 at Extendicare Oakview Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, due to complications arising from a Covid infection. She was 93 years old.
She was born Justina Dyck to her parents, Henry Dyck and Katharina Dyck (nee Reddekop) on September 18, 1928 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba. She was literally the daughter of immigrants, as her dad migrated as a kid from a Mennonite settlement in the Ukraine to Manitoba. She experienced a lot of hardships, from the Great Depression and the Second World War as a child to cancer in the 1980s. She seemed indestructible, so it's hard to fathom that she's gone.
She raised two children while married and working hard on the farm, and then raised another two by herself after moving to Winnipeg. She enjoyed volunteering at her youngest kids' elementary school in the 1970s, television (especially soap operas), cats, and puzzle books. She cooked delicious Mennonite recipes, to the delight of all her children.
She leaves behind sons, Henry, Phillip (and his wife, Barbara) and Jason; son-in-law Claude; along with grandkids, Kurt (and his wife Karin), Nicole (and her husband Tony), Xavier, Lucas and Jocelyn and also great-grandkids, Rowan, Avery, Thia and Nixon.
She was predeceased by her daughter Grace and former husband Henry; along with her parents and all of her brothers and sisters.
The world won't be the same without her. We love you and miss you, Mom!
