Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • “Sra Dona Lidia” as I knew her, was a childhood friend and schoolmate of my father’s in Ponta Delgada, and she became a good friend of my mother’s in Canada; our families were part of the same social circles many years ago as you may recall, Paula, Manuel, and Sabrina. She was a role model in our community and an accomplished, gregarious and spirited woman, who left a mark on many of us. My childhood is shaped by her presence, and later, as a young adult, I had the good fortune to work collaboratively with her on cultural projects, and to be furthered shaped by her perspective on what it meant to be Portuguese and Azorean-portuguese. I will miss seeing her at events and dancing at weddings — that is an image I have etched in my mind’s eye: her short blonde curls bouncing, smiling up at her dance partner with great joy. Descanse em paz, Sra Dona Lidia. - Posted by: Mia Sally Correia (Friend ) on: Feb 11, 2022
