NICHOLAS DERZAK
March 13, 1932 – January 28, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nicholas on January 28, 2022, at the age of 89.
Nicholas will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sons, Mark (Debbie) of Morden, Manitoba and Paul (Rae); and grandchildren, Jessica and Paul James of Beamsville, Ontario. Nicholas was predeceased by his wife Marlene in 2019 and his sister Rose in 2013.
Nicholas was born in Winnipeg's North End and attended St. John's High School. During his working years, he resided in the Elmwood, East Kildonan and North Kildonan area. He later retired to East St. Paul and resided there until his passing. He was employed at Safeway Electric and then worked at the CNR Symnigton Yard Electrical Maintenance from 1955 to 1990, for 33 years. He continued to do electrical work for people through the senior's centre until his death. He enjoyed travelling and seeing the U.S.A., Caribbean and Mexico. He loved his dogs and going to Birds Hill Park for walks.
He loved his two sons and gave everything he could to help them and family. He always put his children ahead of himself and will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

In tears we saw you sinking,
we watched you fade away,
you suffered much in silence,
you fought so hard to stay.

Your golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

If all the world were ours to give
We'd give it - yes, and more,
To see your living smile again
And greet you at our door.

How often there comes before us
Your dear face, kind and true,
For death can never take away
Our memories of you.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Craig, Susana, and Gabbie (Friends) on: Feb 06, 2022

  • Dear Mark, Paul and other Derzak family members. We were sad to hear that your dad passed away recently and want to express our sincere condolences. Phyllis remembered Nick as her cousin who frequently visited her on the farm. We also remember him as a kind person always willing to help. Unfortunately, because of circumstances (Phyllis had a heart attack last year) we are unable to attend the Funeral service. Again, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all of you. Sincerely, Phyllis and Joe Elenbaas. - Posted by: Phyllis and Joe Elenbaas (Cousin) on: Feb 06, 2022

  • Sorry to hear the passing away of your dad and my cousin. Many fond memories we all have in so many ways. Nick was a kind, caring and fun loving cousin, he will be missed. Our short outside visit last summer was a pleasant one. We talked about the old times, shared tears of losing our partners and family members. One promise that your dad and I shared together is, our God holds out a hope for a better future and we firmly believe in that (Rev. 21:4). Our thoughts are with you folks in your time of grief. Big hug to you all from our family to yours. Jean Shmyr and family. - Posted by: Shelley Lepage (Cousin ) on: Feb 05, 2022

  • My condolences to Paul, Mark and their family. - Posted by: Tim Silk (Nephew) on: Feb 05, 2022
