JOHN LARSON BAUER
June 8, 1945 February 3, 2022
Peacefully, at home, in his sleep, John passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.
John is survived by Gail, his wife of 48 years; son Paul (Corinne); daughter Shelly; grandsons, Kenton (Meghan) and Matthew (Jasmine); brother Randy (Karen); sister-in-law Arla and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, John Peter and Hazel Helen (Hanson) Bauer; brothers, Robert (Bob) and Larry and great-nephew Nolan John Bauer.
John lived a full life. He could often be found participating in his many hobbies, including golfing or curling, beer and winemaking, barbecuing, or travelling. Through his work and love of sports, both playing throughout his life and coaching in his younger years, he made many lifelong friendships. John enjoyed meeting and connecting with people. While he had many lifelong friends, he always welcomed new friendships and enjoyed nothing more than bantering, joking and treating his friends to his unique sense of humour and quick wit. Most important to John was his family. He was a dedicated, caring and loving husband and father. We will miss him dearly.
Many thanks to St. Boniface Palliative Care nurses for their kindness in John's final days.
In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

I was so sad to hear of John L’s passing. Growing up, I remember his kind, warm demeanour at all the Bauer functions where he would always have time to chat and share a laugh. He was always smiling with a twinkle in his eye and I’ll remember him fondly. Condolences to Gail and family who I’m sure are still grieving the loss of such a wonderful man. Take care of each other and hold memories close. - Posted by: Judi Bauer (Cousin) on: Jun 01, 2022

John and Gail live right next door and we have had the honor of getting to know them over the last 20+ years. It's hard to believe that John has passed. I keep expecting you to come out of the house, ready to clear the snow on the driveway or, when the weather got better, to see the smoke from your BBQ and smell the wonderful smells of a good meal being made. The conversations we had on the driveway, in our back yard(s), on the golf course, or in our homes for a meal, were times I will treasure for the rest of my life. There were even some occasions when our conversations included sharing a few glasses of scotch together, something we both enjoyed. I feel I have lost someone who I wished I had had more time to get to know even better. John, you were a genuine person. Someone who showed kindness and love, in the simplest of ways. Our girls remember the little gifts they got from you, during Christmas, and it was always special. You often asked about them and it was because you were genuine. You did care. You will be missed, my dear friend, and neighbor. Our condolences to Gail, who loved you immensely. To Paul and Shelly and all the family beyond, may you know that your Dad (and grandfather, etc) was someone special, who talked of his family and friends with pride. May you know peace during the difficult times ahead as you grieve and remember. - Posted by: Douglas Warkentin (Neighbor / friend) on: Mar 21, 2022
