CHRISTOPHER GEORGE JETTE
June 28, 1958 - February 4, 2022
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Christopher George Jette, on February 4, 2022.
Chris was predeceased by his father George in 2014. He was an incredible son, brother, and uncle. Unquestionably, family meant everything to Chris.
He played many sports growing-up, but hockey was his favourite. He excelled in hockey and made many lifelong friends through the sport.
Chris is survived by his mother Lynne; special friend Maurita; brothers, Trevor (Bonnie), Phil (Lynn), Jamie; nieces, Madison (Luke), Ella; nephew Michael; and great-nephew Charlie.
Chris' formative years were spent in Thompson, MB, where he enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially fishing. Along with the family, Chris moved to Winnipeg in the mid 1970s, where he was able to complete his post-secondary education. Chris was very handy with projects around the house and was always willing to help his brothers, friends and neighbours.
Chris was always very supportive of his mother, especially after the passing of his father. Chris was a very conscientious and dedicated employee for the City of Winnipeg. He had a very good sense of humour, as well as a "big, boisterous laugh".
Chris will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at St Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.
A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

I so very saddened to hear and read of Chris’s passing. I grew up with Chris (and Chris’s family) in Thompson. We went to school together and played hockey, Pee Wee through to Midget. As one friend put it, you could start a conversation with Chris where the last one left off even though there were years in between. Condolences to Mrs. Jette, Trevor, Jamie and Philip and your families. From the Crocketts: Mrs Crockett (Lenore) Mark, Scott, Shawn, Shell and Karen. Taken to early, Rest In Peace my Friend - Posted by: D. Mark Crockett (Friend) on: Apr 08, 2022

Our Condolences go out to the Jette Family. Chris was the kindest most sincere man one could meet. He always had a story to tell but also was there to listen and lend a hand. Great hockey player and better person. His Loud laugh was one of a kind. He was the type of guy everyone wanted to be around. He made so many lasting relationships because of who he was. Truly gone way too soon. R.I.P. Chris. - Posted by: Ray Duma (Friend/Teammate ) on: Feb 13, 2022

Saddened to hear that Chris is gone. He was a man of integrity. If you wanted an honest and sincere answer, you got it from Chris. In the late 1980s, I worked as part of a small crew that he led with Parks & Recreation in St James. I haven't seen him since those days, but he made an indelible impression. He was a man of good humour, as well as common sense so great that it transcended to wisdom. One fine Summer day, Chris and I were summoned from our usual duties to beautiful Bruce Park to meet our foreman for a "special assignment". A child had been stung by a wasp at the wading pool. As we stood on the wading pool deck, the foreman pointed high above to a huge wasp nest hanging from a dead branch at the top of a tall tree which overhung the pool deck. The foreman instructed us as follows: we were to return to the shop and find the longest pruning saw pole we could find, then one of us would saw thru the branch while the other (he looked at me, the junior crew member) waited underneath the wasps nest on the pool deck with a regular black garbage bag, held open wide, so as to catch this plummeting medicine ball sized bomb of furious wasps before it hit the ground. Upon making this immaculate reception, I was to "very quickly tie up the bag". Chris and I exchanged looks and began to laugh. But the foreman was not amused...he was serious. I was outraged and commented that this was about the stupidest and most dangerous task I could imagine. I added that while I refused to be the one holding the bag, I would pay money to see him do it. The foreman was not at all amused, and I realized that I had overstepped, but stood firm. Chris defused the tension, assuring the foreman that we had to finish the job we had started earlier in the day, and would try to get back to this task once we finished. As we left I was still upset, but Chris calmly said he agreed the idea was wildly dangerous, but that outright refusals don't go over well, and that all we needed to do was let the foreman think about that one for a day and he would likely decide that a safer solution was a better idea. Then he said something like "it was all I could do not to laugh when you said you'd pay to see him try it, because I was thinking the same thing!" We left Bruce Park laughing hard about that one! - Posted by: Greg J (Former coworker) on: Feb 13, 2022

Shocked and saddened to see the news of Chris's passing. As a young student/athlete away from home for the first time Chris was a great mentor. A wonderful example of the dedication and self-discipline required to accomplish goals in academics and sport. His advice to me at one point "maybe instead of drinking beer, head to the library and study calculus for a change?" I lost track of Chris in recent years but will never forget him. - Posted by: Neil Murdoch (Friend) on: Feb 13, 2022

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to the Jette family for their loss. Chris was an incredibly sincere and thoughtful person who was as genuine as they come. Although hockey was his passion his real talent was how he connected so easily with his teammates and became a lifetime friend to many. Always positive, always a smile, always a kind word to share, always putting others before himself. We called him the Captain for a reason. He was a natural leader and a gentlemen on and off the ice. He will be sincerely missed. - Posted by: Gord & Lynn (Friend & Hockey Teammate ) on: Feb 13, 2022

My prayers and thoughts are with Mrs Jette, Trevor, Pillip, Jamie and the rest of the family. In your Lifetime you get maybe 3-5 real friends and I was lucky to have Chris in my group. We have been buddies since 1976 and Chris was what we all considered a Great Guy. Every project I worked on at either my house or the cottage included Chris. Every social event Linda and I planned included Chris. I started a rec hockey team and of course it included Chris. He also joined in Ski trips and a couple road trips up north to Thompson and the many concerts we attended especially George Strait. I am saddened he is gone but his memories make me smile. Adios Amigo. I know our paths will cross again. Gerald and Linda Boiteau. - Posted by: Gerald Boiteau (Friend) on: Feb 13, 2022

Shocked and disbelief in hearing of Chris’s passing. Heart felt condolences to Mrs Jette, Trevor, Philip, Jamie and their families. I would see Chris once or twice a year since we both left Thompson as teenagers but it was like a conversation that never ended, it just picked up where we left off. Lots of great memories from fishing in a 12 foot Lund powered by a 20 merc that he could fit in the trunk of his car, to winning provincials on a great Midget hockey team. He could slalom ski with ease and laugh with the best of them. He always had an opinion on the state of the world economy and if you had an hour or so he’s explain it. When he brought Tommy Riddel from Sweden to our home in Thompson he sat for the longest time with Don learning about her speaking computer. I’m sure we all have stories and memories of the ‘Mex’ he will forever be in out thoughts as one of the good guys….. gonna miss you bud! 💔 - Posted by: Dennis Fenske (Friend) on: Feb 12, 2022
