RONALD EDWARD PROBETTS
August 12, 1931 – February 6, 2022

Peacefully on February 6, 2022, at the age of 90, Ron Probetts peacefully passed away with his son Bruce and daughter Tannis by his side at Bethania Personal Care Home.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Hazel Probetts and his wife Irene Probetts on December 20, 2014. Ron is survived and will dearly missed by his son Bruce Probetts (Linda) and daughter Tannis Probetts (Lee); sister Barbara Probetts; grandchildren, Samantha Probetts, Cara (Steve) Coulombe, Cal Probetts (Grace), Aaron (Amy) Anderson, Meghan Wade (Val), Dale Williamson, Nebrazka (Dustin) Martins and 13 great-grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by his sister-in-law Shirley Wood; nephews, Garry, Randy and Ron Wood along with grandson Jessie Wade.
Ron joined the Navy and was stationed in Comox, BC and went into the Korean War and was on the Cayuga Destroyer 1953 to 1954. Over the years, dad developed a passion for travel, which led him to a career in the travel business and owning Atlas Lance Travel which consisted of five offices.
Ron also had a passion for sports and was a member of Canada's National Hockey team under Father David Bower and was the official travel agent for the Winnipeg Jets. He was a scout for Canada's National Hockey team and was a coach for the Winakwa Community Club Hockey and Baseball and St. Boniface Saints.
Later in life, Ron taught travel at Robertson Career College and was a Commissionaire at the Winnipeg International Airport, followed by a Commissionaire at Canada Revenue Agency.
The family would like to thank certain special nurses, aides, recreational staff of Bethania Personal Care Home who took special care of our father….you know who you all are.
As per dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of dad's life will happen later in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a local dog rescue of your choice.
OUR FAMILY URGES EVERYONE WHO HAS A LOVED ONE IN A PERSONAL CARE HOME TO BE AN ADVOCATE FOR THEM AND VISIT OFTEN. OUR PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT AND HEALTH AUTHORITIES NEED TO ADDRESS THE UNDERSTAFFING CRISIS IN HOME CARES AND PROVIDE IMMEDIATE SUPPORT TO NURSES AND HEALTH CARE AIDES.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My dearest Uncle, I grew up with my Aunt (Nanny), Uncle Ron & cousins. We did everything together, our summers at Wpg Beach. Where both our families had cabins. So much fun and great memories of Uncle packing us all up in his station wagon & going to Gimli fishing, the theatre, & garage sailing. When we sold & built at lee river they visited often, & soon followed us. We were all so Happy, 5 mins away again. He was always there for me & my Mom, He loved my kids like his own grand babies & spoiled them with love & humour. He had a special spot for my brothers, I loved him like a Dad & treasure all my memories. Love you forever Wendy - Posted by: Wendy Johnson (Neice) on: Feb 21, 2022

  • Irene and Ron lived across from Mom & Dad in Windsor Park for many years - they were such good neighbours and friends. After Mom passed away, they were always "keeping an eye" out for Dad. Every so often we would get a call from Irene, that Dad was up on the roof, dancing along the edge, cleaning the gutter or removing snow (I am convinced he did this entirely for her benefit). Dad was gradually losing his sight and Ron was continually helping as his "second pair" of eyes. Bruce, Tannis and families - our sincere condolences. - Posted by: Karen & Ken McArthur (Friends) on: Feb 20, 2022

  • Got to know Ron when I worked at the Winnipeg Tax Centre and he was on-site with the Corps of Commisionaires. We were "Two Ronnies From Weston." An absolute pleasure working with him. Totally in awe of all he accomplished in so many different areas. Condolences to the family he was so very proud of. - Posted by: Ron Gensorek (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2022

  • Extremely sad to hear of Ron’s passing … would very much have liked to of had a visit with Ron but as you, Bruce, informed me Covid made that impossible … I haven’t seen your Dad for many years, last time being at cabin but have many great memories … Bruce, Tannis and your families, sincere condolences - Posted by: Jim Chester (Old friend) on: Feb 13, 2022
