BRUCE HUNT
June 18, 1952 - February 10, 2022

Once upon a time a teenage girl, Joanne, met a teenage boy named Bruce. He loved the freedom of a motorcycle ride and she hung on tight. Bruce was a good husband, the entertaining dad, and known by his grandkids as "GPA". His gifts were his voice, his quick wit, his charm, and a love of fun. He was an active union negotiator and a liquor inspector for many years. He loved all things with wheels and loved to go cruising. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Charleswood Snooker League and spending time at X-Cues Café and Lounge. His favourite music genre was rhythm and blues. His favourite movie was The Blues Brothers. Having a bathing suit day, swimming, and conversing beachside was a much-loved pastime. He loved to explore, with some favourite destinations being Barbados, Canmore, Tofino, and Yellowstone.
Bruce passed away on February 10, 2022 surrounded in love by his wife Joanne and sons, Stephen and Martin. Bruce also holds space in the hearts of his four grandchildren - Olivia, Hugh, Nate and Finn, and two daughters-in-law, Barb and Megan. Bruce touched the lives of many and shares memories with friends, neighbours and family, too numerous to name.
In keeping with Bruce's wishes, a Celebration of Life to reminisce on fond memories will take place at Breezy Bend Golf & Country Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd. on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A brief presentation will be held at 2:00 p.m. and this will be streamed for those unable to attend in person. If you would like to participate virtually or have a memory you would like to share with the family or at the service, please email jbrucehunt1952@gmail.com.

Condolences & Memories (24 entries)

  • So sad to hear the news from a retired MLCC employee . I remember Bruce as a Union activist, and as a member of the MGEA baseball team which I organized. A personable guy who was liked by all.A gentle giant who could be tough if he needed to be. Lost touch over the last few years, but will remember him fondly. Regret that I was unable to attend his celebration at Breezy. Another of the Good-uns gone much too soon. Grant (Jock)Rodgers, former MGEU Rep. and Baseball Buddy. - Posted by: Grant Rodgers (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2022

  • Joanne, Steven & Martin and families. We were lucky enough to have known Bruce for many years. We have nothing but really fond memories of the great times together. We often reminisce about our many fun camping trips and get togethers. Bruce was always the centre of much laughter and many shenanigans wherever we were. Your black van and the CB radio spring to mind. Although we have not been in touch lately we will always remember what an exception person Bruce was. Bruce and Joanne were a perfect match from the very beginning !! Please take care and let all of your wonderful memories carry you through this very difficult time. Lots of Love Wendy & Curtis - Posted by: Curtis & Wendy Collins (Friends and Co-worker at Air Canada with Wendy) on: Feb 26, 2022

  • My condolences to the Hunt family. Bruce & Joanne would to come in for gas often at Roseberry ESSO when I worked there from 1971-1974. Bruce Was always full of life and energy. We send hugs and love to you and your family. - Posted by: Karen and Gerry DeCorby (Neighborhood friends) on: Feb 19, 2022

  • We are very sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing ! Great memories on Southwick as we enjoyed watching the kids grow up together ! Also great times at the lake. Bruce was a lifesaver with our old boat as he helped keep that old motor running . Particularly after I incorrectly put back the the lower half of the motor resulting in us going backwards while hoping to go forward. Many laughs that weekend and Bruce was able to undo my handiwork ! Always a great host and always enjoyed a good time ! - Posted by: Richard Gooch (Friend and neighbour ) on: Feb 19, 2022

  • Dear Joanne and families - Bruce will be missed by us so much. He was a great guy with a great sense of humour. We really loved that we could co - grandparent with you both. It has been so much fun to share our grandchildren. A special memory for us will be when we were all at Reddens together. You guys at the trailer and this side of the family at the 2 cabins. Sharing the love of the lake, swimming at the beach, fishing, tie dying t-shirts, watching Bruce suit up for a motorcycle ride. It was a wonderful time and is a wonderful memory! • We moved onto the street in 2000. Bruce and Joanne were part of the original owner group (1984). They were always very friendly and gracious. I enjoyed the "end of the driveway" conversations about the Jets or Bombers or other current events with Bruce. Will also miss his presence at the annual street parties and wine events. RIP Bruce. • We have been so lucky to have gotten to know Bruce and Joanne through the marriage of Martin and Megan. I have seen first hand the positive influence Bruce has had with both Martin and Steve. I have also seen first hand how Hugh and Olivia’s eyes would light up when the name GPA came up. My memories are his all things Harley. The times spent together at Santa’s brunch with the kids and of course times spent at Long Bow. Bruce was kind and caring and would do anything to help out. Our thoughts are with the entire family as you go through this difficult time Love Sherry and Barry - Posted by: Barry & Sherry Mcleod (Friend ) on: Feb 16, 2022

  • Dear JoAnne and family! I’m very saddened to hear of Bruce’s passing! Bruce was our Liquor Inspector when we owned the Happy Wanderer in Plum Coulee. Bruce was the best Inspector we ever had. He was excellent at his job but did it in a friendly and professional way. It was always a pleasure when Bruce came to visit! He even brought his son with him on occasion.
