ANA ELIZABETH TISAJ
November 1, 1965 February 10, 2022
On February 10, 2022, Ana Elizabeth Tisaj - our beloved mother, sister, and aunt - peacefully passed away at age 56, with her loving family by her side.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Lucas and Nathan; brothers, Latsi (Bozica) and Tony (Katie); sister Marija; and her nieces and nephews, Brigitta (Hrvoje), Karla, Adrian, Alex, Dennis, Dallas, and Logan; along with many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrija Tisaj and Dragica Tisaj (Grdic).
Ana was born November 1, 1965, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She had fond memories of growing up on Toronto Street and made lifelong friends. In 1983, Ana graduated from Tec Voc High School with her Dental Technician Diploma.
In her younger years, Ana was an active member of the Croatian community where she danced in the Croatian Folklore Ensemble. Ana was the life of the party, always in the midst of everything.
In the winter of 1991, Ana married Gordon Hrynyk and moved to Vancouver where they lived for six years. In 1996, Lucas was welcomed into their world and Ana often said it was the happiest time of her life. Shortly after Lucas was born, they moved back to Winnipeg to the Riverview area to be close to family. In April 2000, they were blessed with the birth of their second son Nathan. Not only was Ana a tireless advocate for both her sons, she was a champion for Nathan, promoting Autism Awareness.
Ana was faced with many challenges. In January 2013 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She battled through it like a warrior and would be declared cancer-free in early 2014. In 2015, she started a job that she loved. The Winnipeg Foundation was lucky enough to hire her as a receptionist where she quickly moved to the Grants Team in a role as Grants Administrative Coordinator. She was recently promoted to the Foundation's new Grants Management System Specialist.
Ana loved music and adored singing. She was creative and extremely generous, had a wicked sense of humour, and loved to travel. Ana was a special soul, a true light in the world. She had a voracious love for friends and family. She made everyone feel special and important with every conversation. Ana always said she wanted to be remembered as a nice person, and she will be, by many.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Victoria Hospital and Health Sciences Centre MICU. Especially the nurses for their compassionate, loving care during her illness.
A celebration of Ana's life will be held Friday, March 25, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street at McBey Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ana Tisaj Memorial Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3 204-944-9474. www.wpgfdn.org/AnaTisaj

My condolences to all of Ana’s family and friends. I moved a few doors down from Ana 3 years ago. We would talk in the back lane when she and Nathan were taking a walk. Her dog and mine would play in the front yards on occasion. I was just getting to know her and was so looking forward to more talks and time with her and Nathan this summer after the long isolation of the past two years. She was so bubbly and friendly. A true loss for everyone. - Posted by: Sandra Buckberger (Neigbour) on: Mar 05, 2022

My condolences to the family. I was so incredibly saddened to hear that Ana had passed. I saw her last year at George's pool when she had come for a visit. I remember every time I saw her she was always so happy and bubbly. And that time was no different. She was always so happy to see me and just made me feel so good. Conversations with her were so easy and she was always having a good laugh in spite of the challenges she has had in the last few years. A real trooper. Still can't believe it. I am so sorry for all our loss. - Posted by: Draga Corona (Friend from Mississauga (Grdic cousen)) on: Feb 22, 2022

I met Ana way back in the 90's and then we reconnected when she started at the Winnipeg Foundation. She was a ray of sunshine every time I had the chance to work with her. She will be truly missed. - Posted by: Ian McCausland (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2022

I am at a loss for words, I still can't believe that you are gone Ana, you found me again, you moved away. Now I will never see you again.Your family is my first memory, your mom and dad, that I still remember. Your dad helped my mom when she locked herself out of the house, with my little sister still up stairs in her crib. She still gratedful even all those years later too him. Growing up on Toronto Street was the best ever. You even made me crepes as a kid at my home when my parents were at work. That's the kind of person you are. Toronto Street will never be the same, Ana ever. Your boys could not be in better hands, words fail me now, rest in peace Ana, “I’m deeply sorry your family is experiencing the pain of a loss like this. My heart goes out to each of you.” From Marco and my mother Giovanna Rossi and sister Carolina - Posted by: Marco Rossi (Friends ) on: Feb 20, 2022
