MARIETTE MESSNER-FORTIER
1942 - 2022
Peacefully at home on March 28, 2022, Mariette Messner-Fortier, formerly of Saint-Léon, Manitoba, passed away after a brief illness.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jacqueline, Mark, and Edward (Chantal); grandchildren, Emily, Thomas, Stéphane, and Bréelle; siblings, Dennis (Anna) and Claire (Lawrence); in-laws, Gisèle, Linda, Lucille, Paulette (Ben), and Denis (Denise); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Fortier; parents, Nicholaus and Laurette Messner; parents-in-law, Léo and Jeanne Fortier; son-in-law Amaro Silva; brothers, Andrew, Edward, and Remi; sisters, Hilda and Anita; and her brothers-in-law, Armel Labossière, George Droux, and Greg Gaudet. Family meant everything to Mariette, and we are convinced she has already begun planning an epic Messner family reunion with her relatives up in heaven.
As per Mariette's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
The family thanks the many health care professionals who cared for Mariette during the past three months, in particular Dr. Marie Loewen and all the staff from Palliative Care.

Mes plus sincères condoléances à toi Jacqueline, à ta famille et à tes proches. Je me souviens encore comment tes parents m'accueillaient quand j'étais un jeune employé du Bureau de l'Éducation française et qu'on voulait ouvrir une école française à Saint-Léon. Je me souviens aussi des bonnes années à la SFM quand je travaillais avec ton père. Et maintenant j'ai le plaisir de travailler avec toi de temps à autres dans tes fonctions reliées au CNFS. Our deepest condolences on your mom's passing. Lots of memories of time spent visiting and seeing her - especially when she lives in same building as mom and dad. She is most definitely enjoying that family reunion. Votre père était mon professeur d'histoire à Somerset et je suis heureux qu'il m'encourage à travailler sur mon arbre généalogique dont je m'occupe encore à ce jour.
