MARIANNE ABBOTT

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our beloved sister, Marianne Abbott on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. After years of coping with debilitating health issues and meeting each and every one of them without bitterness, she remained so positive about the good things about life. And, while her own body was slowly failing her, her mind was forever sharp, and she knew how to use it to get things done.
Marianne leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, John ("Barnie" to her); brother Ben Wagner (Pat); Marijke Wall; Nick Waagenaar; Willy Jones (Phil) and John (Sandie). Marianne was predeceased by her sister Anne and mother Anne.
Marianne is a special loss to her good friend, confidante and caregiver for over 40 years, Ruth Moore. They could be found at Club Regent Monday's and Thursday's feeding the troops with goodies of the day while enjoying Bingo.
With her debilitating health issues, Marianne for many years was an eager, active and knowledgeable Patient Partner with health institutions and doctors' workshops. She gave back this way in the ultimate benefit that she could, by helping doctors understand from a patient perspective, the crippling effects of rheumatoid arthritis. She was an asset to health care.
Marianne and John enjoyed many years of RVing together in their motorhome. They could be found in Thief River Falls, MN for the summers, enjoying shopping and a bit of casino therapy. It was their happy place.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial celebrating her life will be announced at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Barney and family… I worked with Marianne, AKA Mare, for over 20 years as a Patient Partner. Mare was an amazing, determined and gentle soul. She dedicated her time and energy teaching medical professionals the MSK Exam and about her disease. I travelled with her across Canada working with different students, Mare was always positive and a great ambassador for arthritis. She often kept the group laughing about her and Barney’s adventures in the motor home. Marianne will be sadly missed. Rest In Peace. Hugs Barney If possible could you let me know when you will be having The celebration of Life. - Posted by: Corrie Billedeau (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2022

  • My condolences to all of her family and friends. Marianne was a very strong special young lady when I worked with her in Investigations over 30 years ago. She was a very positive, organized hard worker who always had a sparkle about her. She was so positive many of us were in awe of how she never complained about the curve balls life had thrown her way. She so loved her husband and mother whom she was very close to. She made the best cream puffs ever which she brought to work so we could also enjoy! Rest in peace! - Posted by: lynne cooper (former co-worker) on: Apr 24, 2022

  • My sincere condolences to Barnie, Marianne’s family and her many friends. Marianne and I worked together at HRDC (Investigations) and I have fond memories of working with Marianne. She was a dedicated and hard worker. I also remember Marianne telling me about her squirrel friends and how much she enjoyed their company. RIP my colleague and friend. - Posted by: Rick Valcourt (Co-worker) on: Apr 23, 2022
