TERRY GIFFORD
It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Terry Gifford on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
Terry was the middle of three children, growing up in Fort Rouge on Carlaw Street. He graduated from Churchill High School, going on to receive a diploma in Business Administration from Red River College. He began his career working for the Pharmaceutical Association, moving to The Appraisal Institute of Canada, where he held the position of Executive Vice President for many years. After Terry's first retirement, he moved on to work at CTTAM as Executive Director from 2006 to 2016 where a Red River College scholarship will be named in his memory.
Terry was always involved in the community, giving his time and energy to many organizations over the years: coaching at the Charleswood Optimists Football Club, volunteering on the board of the Deer Lodge United Church, coaching and acting as convenor at the Silver Heights Community Club, coaching the St. James A's Baseball Club, taking on the role of president of the St. James Minor Hockey Association, volunteering for the CTTAM/Skills Manitoba/Red River College Wind Turbine Competition, organizing events for and acting as president of the Grand Beach Cottage Owners Association, and volunteering for The Christmas Cheer Board in his later years. Terry made a positive impact on so many people's lives.
Terry loved Winnipeg's professional sports teams, he was an avid Bomber's fan and season ticket holder. He loved spending summers at Grand Beach, relaxing, enjoying meals and games with friends. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and working on projects around the cottage but most of all, he loved his family. Terry was always the first to reach out after a major accomplishment or organize a celebration for a birthday. Seeing family happy made Terry happy. Dad was a great man. He was the kind of guy who would never miss an opportunity to compliment a new hairstyle or pair of glasses. He made people feel important - genuinely taking interest in others. We will miss his optimism, his diplomacy, and his kind nature.
Terry is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter, Gayle Rakowski (Damian, Marek, Deryn and Leah); and his sons, Neil (Hannah, Jillian and Bronwyn) and Michael (Cass). He is also survived by his brother, David (Mary), sister, Susan, and uncle, Harvey Fairman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31st, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home - 4000 Portage Ave, with viewing taking place one half hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

Pat and family, We will truly miss Terry and his smiling face shouting out “Good Morning, isn’t it a Grand day”! Terry had a magnetic personality. He drew you in and you just knew he was was a person who was actually interested in you and your family. He was a great neighbour, and would help anyone. No matter how small or large the job was, you could count on him. We will miss his smile, his wisecracks, and him sitting on his cottage deck waving to all who walked by. He was our neighbour who became a friend and we will miss him very much. Garry and Lynda - Posted by: Garry and Lynda Specht (Grand Beach neighbour) on: Jun 04, 2022

When I think of Terry I remember his willingness to help and his generous support to the community, friends and neighbours. He always had time to stop and talk to the “shut in”. His love for his dogs made many friends. It won’t be the same without him at the cottage. - Posted by: Linda Howell (Beach friend and neighbour ) on: May 31, 2022

Terry loved to tell stories, some of them were even true!! Great sense of humor. Terry and I were involved with the Appraisal Institute of Canada over a 10 year period and more. Ann and I are so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. He was a good friend to us during our involvement with the Appraisal Institute. Our best memories are of shared travels with our families, particularly to Florida. Terrace and Patio, Gayle and Neil (the Grifters) and the Marftyns. We met young Michael in later years. I just want to say that I am so sorry for all of you that are hurting right now. I so can relate. I always enjoyed seeing Terry at family dinners. There was no lack of conversation ever! Whenever he was at my work, he would always stop to say hello. It was just a few weeks ago that he was in the store and stopped to tell me how sorry he was of Ken's passing. It meant a lot to me. Who knew? I would have taken a little more time! Family is an amazing healer these days. Please stay close and look after one another! 😘😘😘 - Posted by: Diane Johnson (Sister in law) on: May 28, 2022
