SONIA PATZEL

On June 12, 2022 at River East Personal Care home, Sonia Patzel passed away at 94 years of age.
She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Lawrence Patzel; her brothers, Billy, Walter, Joe, Peter, Sam and John Glowa; as well as her sisters, Lena Charlesworth and Marie Milner. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Glowa; her children, Fay Croall, Doreen Bowden and Ken Patzel (Barbara); as well as her eight grandchildren, Stuart Croall (Sherri), Alison (Jiri), Carrie Bowden (Don), Rodney Bowden (Colleen), Stacey Bowden-Sass (Shaun), Isaac Patzel, Julia Zanewich (Josh) and Dan Mroz; along with 13 great-grandchildren, as well as nephews and nieces.
Sonia grew up on the farm near Gimli, Manitoba. She was a wonderful, loyal mother who loved her family and took good care of them.
She loved working in her garden, so we could enjoy fresh vegetables as well as her dill pickles, pickled beets and crabapple jelly. Cooking was her passion and she made delicious meals for her guests. Everyone loved her holopchi and putihe. Her chocolate chip cookies were the favourite of all the kids in the neighbourhood. Sonia also loved her grandchildren very much and tried to spend as much time as possible with them.
After supper, it was time to play canasta, which was always a good time. Something else that Sonia really enjoyed for both the social aspect, as well as for exercise, was five pin bowling. She participated in league bowling for many years and won several championships! She was also a true Blue Bomber fan and listened to all their games on the radio.
Sonia has been in the River East Personal Care Home since 2018 and the staff has demonstrated excellent care and concern for her welfare. Thanks to all of you!
There will be a private family service, with interment at Brookside Cemetery.
