NETTIE SOLINSKI
(nee MELNYK)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nettie Solinski (nee Melnyk), our beloved mother and grandmother, June 26, 2022, in Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The daughter of newly-arrived Canadians, Nettie was born in Winnipeg March 8, 1928 and grew up near Arborg, Manitoba, alongside her side-kick brother Bill, and siblings, Mary, Dennis, and Dianne. Nettie was predeceased by all her siblings, her lifelong partner Ken, and her beloved son Alvin (Marianne, Jason, Cory). Nettie leaves behind her sons, Ronald (Randi, Zain, Nadia) and Raymond, along with many additional nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Mom loved you all.
In the 1940s Nettie married her lifelong partner Ken and moved to Holland, MB in 1947, where they raised their children and established themselves in the hotel industry. In her career, Nettie was also partner to Ken in hotels in both Roblin and Winnipeg, ending their time in business at the St. James Hotel in Winnipeg, retiring in 1990.
Nettie loved people, adventure, and travel. And though diminutive in size, her spirit was enormous, her smile engaging, and her need to get to know others was insatiable throughout her life. Nettie and Ken travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Hawaii, also visiting South America and Asia. She was always most proud of her family, and their accomplishments, and for Ma her most important life accomplishment was that she and Ken had "taught her boys how to work".
Mom you will be deeply missed
We would be remiss if we failed to express our gratitude and thanks to the nurses, doctors, and supportive staff at Victoria Hospital, who worked hard, under difficult circumstances, to make Ma's last days as comfortable as possible.
A special thanks as well to Merna and Ron Bowes for their support in these last years.
A celebration of Nettie's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on July 6, 2022, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A brief chapel and graveside service will be followed by a light lunch.

We so enjoyed getting to know Nettie at Glendale Court. We knew her as a kind and pleasant lady, with a big heart and a big smile. We were sad when she moved away. Sympathy to your boys.
