DORNE LINDAL
(MITCHELL)

March 20, 1952 - July 30, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dorne Ellen Lindal at the age of 70.
She was predeceased by her first husband Bruce Kowerchuk and parents, Edna and Lynn Mitchell.
To mourn her passing, Dorne leaves behind her husband Frank, son Jeffrey Kowerchuk, sisters, Elaine (Merv), Jan (Bill), and Cathy, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorne was born in Morden, Manitoba in 1952. She attended Nellie McClung Collegiate in Manitou and went on to graduate from Brandon University where she first met her husband Frank. She went on to become a pioneer in the field of geology, becoming one of the first female geologists in Manitoba. In over 25 years of work with the provincial government, Dorne made many friendships with her coworkers which continued on to this day.
Dorne was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her flowers, walking, dining at fine restaurants, and winter vacations in Arizona.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dear Frank, We were shocked and saddened to hear of your loss. Dorne was much too young to have passed and you will miss her very much. Sincere condolences Frank. - Posted by: Rick and Claudia Bunn (Friend) on: Apr 26, 2023

  • Today as I was cleaning up after our first snowfall a car stopped. Asking if I knew the gentleman, an embarrassing moment, he replied it’s Frank. I immediately welcomed him with a smile and a how are you doing. He replied not well and it came to his attention that I did not know that Dorne had passed away. Dorne and I first met at Bea and Don’s famous Boxing Day get togethers in Brandon. Then years later we met again in the washroom of Eaton Place building, I worked for Canada Pension and she at Manitoba Geology Survey. Our friendship became known as the bathroom girls chat club. I consider myself lucky to have known such a wonderful person and privileged to have had some wonderful memories and laughs. Dorne you will be missed by those who have crossed your path. To you Frank my deepest condolences 🥰 - Posted by: Karen Ardron (Friend ) on: Nov 11, 2022

  • I was very saddened to hear of Dorne's passing. I had the good fortune to work with Dorne for many years, and have fond memories of her kind spirit, infectious laugh and sense of humour, and how she brought people together in the office for coffee, tea and lunches. And oh how she kept the otherwise drab workplace alive with plants! My condolences go out to Jeff and Frank; you are in my thoughts. - Posted by: Len Chackowsky (Work Friend and Colleague) on: Aug 10, 2022

  • Dorne will be remembered by the Manitoba Geological Survey colleagues as a very kind, always ready to help, meticulous worker. But her kindness and compassion reached far beyond our work place. When the health of our retired colleague Dr. Werner Weber, who lived in a nursing home, became frail, she organized frequent visits of two or three co-workers to take him for walks, to take him for lunches, to talk to him, to answer his questions, and thus brightened his world. She was very kind person and will be very much missed. Our deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Cathy McGregor and Josef Macek (Colleagues) on: Aug 09, 2022

  • Dorne was a very close friend of mine when we worked together at the Manitoba Geological Survey. My friendship with Dorne first started as a team of geologists working together on the 'bedrock compilation series maps'. Dorne was the leader on these map compilations and would bring together the team for meetings and would assigned our tasks and deadlines. Her meticulous work on those early paper maps stood out for me - mainly for she could bring the team together, but also because of her beautiful cursive penmanship - it was incredible. They trained them well in those country schools I guess! And Dorne loved food! Our lunchtime takeouts were great treats - Karpaty smokies and BBQ kiebasa, Rae & Jerrys Greek salads or roast beef sandwiches, Oscar's liver sandwiches with red onions, Homer's tzatziki sauce and roast potatoes, Mrs Mike's chips and chili, and the list goes on. She knew food and the where to find the best eats in town. We even had a lunch outing to celebrate the completion of a compilation map! 'I love ya' Dorne - I am so glad I had the chance to say that to you the day before on the phone. I am going to miss you tremendously - but your memory will always be there for me when I pick up a compilation map or visit those restaurants. Lucky for those of us who got to work with you! With a very heavy heart, Ruth - Posted by: Ruth Bezys (Work Friend and Colleague) on: Aug 07, 2022
