It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wayne Alexander Smith on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at home, in the arms of his loving wife Hazel, of 60 years.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Evelyn and John Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and caring wife Hazel, his daughter Noreen (Trevor), Bonnie (Keith), Kelly (Rick) and his son Troy (Val); siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
Wayne was born on October 8, 1938, and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Wayne worked at Weston's Bakery for 35 years, until he retired in December 2000. Wayne enjoyed fishing, watching sports, playing cards, and taking care of all the stray animals that his children had brought home. He loved to tinker around his garage and polish his vehicle. Wayne had a good sense of humour, and loved family garage sales, St. Vital Park BBQ's, and making the biggest bonfires, which all the grandchildren loved.
Though he has left our lives, he will never be forgotten. Hazel's thoughts are "Wayne, you were more than a husband, you were my best friend. Even though you passed away, I still feel your presence, watching over me. I know that someday we shall be together again."
To honour his wishes, a small memorial service with immediate family has already taken place.
The family would like to thank the City of Winnipeg Fire Department and Paramedics, who tried courageously to save Wayne.
Wayne’s family kindly requests that you visit his tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography as well as memories and stories published by those who knew him are available there.
