John left a great impression in my life. We met through his store, Pendragon, in Winnipeg, at first as a customer, and then as a friend. He became a mentor to me and I fondly remember all the games (boardgames and roleplaying games) he introduced me to. We went to GAMA in Las Vegas one year. That was an experience I won't forget. My fondest memory was at a SciFi convention in Winnipeg. David Drake (sci-fi author) was a guest. I have brought all of my books by him to be signed. I was waiting to have them signed, and John mentioned "you know, if you offered to buy him lunch he would probably take you up on it." I would have never thought to ask him myself. I asked, he accepted, and we had an amazing two discussion about writing which put me on the path to being the published author I am today. Without John noticing my desire to have a longer conversation and a push in the right direction, it never would have happened. For that, I am eternally grateful. My sincere condolences to Linda and the whole family. John could be gruff, but once you got to know him, he was an amazing fellow. - Posted by: Kerry Mould (Friend) on: May 20, 2023
