Suddenly, after a brief illness, Randy passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, in the company of his daughters.
Randy was born in Winnipeg to parents, Charles and Alice (nee Dafoe) Price on October 9, 1934. Randy grew up in Winnipeg on Walnut Street, raised by his dearest mother and grandfather “Bomps”. Randy attended Laura Secord Elementary and then graduated from Gordon Bell High School. He attended the University of Manitoba, graduating from Civil Engineering with honours in 1957. During his university years, Randy belonged to the Sigma Lambda Phi Fraternity. During third year university summer break, Randy worked for the Manitoba Highways Department, stationed in The Pas, Manitoba. It was this summer he met the love of his life, Lesley! Randy began his Professional Engineering career with a consulting firm, but within six months joined the Manitoba Department of Highways and Transportation. Randy was a Bridge designer for the Province of Manitoba with the North Perimeter Bridge being his most cherished and memorable project. Randy rose to the position of Planning and Programming Director for the Bridge Department, retiring in 1995. Randy and Lesley married in 1959 and started their family life of 59 years together in St. James. Randy was only 30 years old, when sadly he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Fortunately, after many years of MS episodes, Randy went into remission in 1976. We were truly blessed and grateful he remained in remission. Randy was a kind, loving, sincere, but always practical husband, father and friend. He loved his family dearly being a devoted, son, husband, and father. He took great care of his health to ensure he could provide for his family he cherished. Randy and Lesley thoroughly enjoyed many trips to Hawaii, and then latter years to Florida to visit their daughter, Allyson.
Randy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lesley in 2018, his mother, Alice Price (1973), grandfather Rance G Dafoe (1970).
Left to cherish Randy‘s love and happy memories are daughters, Sydney (Barry) Wiess, Allyson (Bruce) Lomberk; grandsons, Brett, Drew, and Craig; niece Lisa Jordan and family, sister Donna Jean from Calgary, sister-in-law Rosalind (Ian) Malcolm and family.
A special thank you to Lisa Jordan who lovingly assisted Allyson over the last five years at times when in-person assistance was needed if Allyson “Peanut” needed help from Florida.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Cemetery for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada - Manitoba Division, 1465 Buffalo Pl., #100, Winnipeg, MB R3T 1L8; mscanada.ca.
Dad, you were always my foundation, my hero, and the unconditional love and care you provided Mom, Sydney, and me will always be cherished and felt forever, “Peanut”.
