THEODORE PETER DANDEWICH

1937 - 2023

On the early morning of June 14, 2023, after a difficult year of fighting cancer, Ted passed peacefully at the Grace Hospice, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Stephanie; his children, Kim (Keith), Greg (Cindy), Kevin (Karen); his grandchildren, Ryan (Savannah), Reid (Hailey and great-granddaughter Wren), Colin, Jacey (Tyler), Janae and Jacob; his nephew Randy (Joanne) and nieces, Kelly (Glenn) and Lianne (Rob).

Predeceased by his sisters, Rose (Ed) and Phyllis (Bob).

Ted was born in Winnipeg Beach and raised on a farm in the Interlake area. He went to St Paul’s High School in Winnipeg and then continued to college where he received his CET in mechanical engineering. He had a long, rewarding professional career that he enjoyed into his early 80s. Ted and Stephanie were childhood friends and on June 7, 1958 Ted married the love of his life Stephanie. They spent every moment together supporting each other through the twist and turns of life. Ted and Stephanie enjoyed travelling; spending the last 30 years in Barbados during the winter months where they met lifelong friends from around the world. They also travelled Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico. When summer came along Ted and Stephanie would head down to the Blackhills, South Dakota where they loved to spend time and Ted would return home with a trunk full of rocks for his garden and yard. Ted enjoyed time with his grandchildren - he loved to sing to them and always interjecting humour.

His other passion was building, there was always a construction project going on where family and friends would be participating. The family supported each other and Ted was always there to support his children and their family.

Ted is resting in peace and will be missed by all family and friends.

A very big thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice; Riverview; CancerCare; and Nurses Next Door as well to all the family and friends that supported Ted and Stephanie throughout the last year.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CancerCare; Riverview or Grace Hospice.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0G4.

“God looked around His garden,

And found an empty space,

Then He looked down upon the earth

And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you,

And lifted you to rest,

God’s garden must be beautiful,

He only takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,

And that we were short of on time,

He knew the road was getting rough,

And the hills were hard to climb.

We looked at you once more,

And saw you’ll always shine,

Then God closed your weary eyelids

And whispered, “Peace be thine.”

It breaks our hearts to lose you,

But you did not go alone,

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.”

  • I spent many mornings at Tim Hortons on Ferry & Portage having a coffee and then Ted would dive into some type of HVAC control problem which needed attention. He was always there first and have the coffee and timbits waiting. I worked on various projects over the years with Ted and will miss the conversation and a personality that was always positive. Not to worry Ted, they have Tim's up there also. A person that you will always remember with positive thoughts. - Posted by: Gord Cassell (Friend) on: Jun 18, 2023

  • Ted helped me a lot when I was trying to do the engineering thing as a tradesman. Always appreciate and remember him for that. He's probably got a few raised planters goin up there right now. - Posted by: Ron Olson (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2023

  • My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ted. I met him in business in Winnipeg, and although a fierce competitor I always held Ted in the highest regard. Let us remember the man Ted was and how we spent time with him. - Posted by: James Jesney (Associate) on: Jun 17, 2023
