JOHN ARTHUR GOOSSEN
August 31, 1937 June 24, 2023
John Goossen passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at Bethesda Place in Steinbach, Manitoba.
John, the eldest son of the late Mary and John Gossen, is predeceased by Irma (Stan) and survived by brothers Bruno (Solange) and Vic and sister Helene (Ed), along with nieces and nephews that are scattered around Winnipeg, the west coast of BC and Australia.
Johnny grew up on a small farm along the Rouseau River where he lived with his siblings, Irma and Bruno. In 1946, the family moved to Steinbach where they continued their farming ways with Helene and Vic joining them shortly thereafter.
Johnny was a gentle and uncomplicated fellow. As John would say, "I am just happy to see the dawn of each new day. My aim is to stay healthy as long as I can." He was dedicated to his work, his church, and the community at large. John worked for the Steinbach Credit Union for over 45 years! John was a man of faith and enjoyed attending the Steinbach Mennonite Church.
Johnny was an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for running, cross country skiing, and cycling. He ran 13 marathons, including one in Boston. His favourite adventures had him exploring Israel, California, Russia, and Jamaica. Johnny volunteered at the MCC Thrift Shop for many years and generously donated to many charities that were close to his heart.
Many thanks to the heath care team at Bethesda Place for their kindness and compassion.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB, with viewing 30 minutes prior to the service.

I worked at the SCU briefly while John was there. He was always a delightful character to say hi to every morning. He always gave off positive vibes, which made the daily routine a joy to take in. Thanks for the memories John! - Posted by: Ian Peters (Co-worker) on: Jun 29, 2023
