ANDRÉ CAMILLE CHAPUT
June 25, 1944 – June 26, 2023

It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, André Camille Chaput. André passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, in Ste-Anne, Manitoba, at the age of 79.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Thérèse (née Lajoie), daughters Jacqueline (Don), Brigitte (Rick), Yvette (Richi); grandchildren Jordon, Andrée (Shane), Elliot, Adriana (Kevin), Diego and Magalie.
Predeceased by his parents, Alice Chaput (née Charrière age 87 in 2009), Camille Chaput (age 90 in 2011), his sister Suzanne (age 54 in 2014), and his brother Maurice (age 74 in 2021). The second of 11 children, André is survived by his siblings, Maria (Louis), Hubert (Joan), Louise (Claude), Roger, Lucien (Monique), Gérald (Gerry), Alice (Ron), Clément (Myrna).
André married Thérèse Lajoie, the love of his life, on April 30, 1966, and over the next six years, welcomed their three daughters.
André worked for the Bank of Montreal in Lac du Bonnet, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and Ste-Anne until moving to La Caisse Populaire de Saint-Boniface. He then dedicated 20 years to the Seine River School Division and the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine as Secretary-Treasurer.
André was dedicated to his community, giving so much of his time and energy to various organizations and charities. He was Mayor of the Town of Ste-Anne and volunteered for the Ste-Anne Fire Department for decades, forging many friendships along the way. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, assisted l'Accueil Kateri food bank by picking up monthly donations from Winnipeg Harvest. He sat on many boards and always gave his all.
If you didn't find him working in his vegetable garden, he might be in his woodshop, or helping Thérèse, his daughters or his grandchildren with projects. Barring that, he was either fishing, or taking Thérèse out for a Sunday drive for ice cream in his 1966 Barracuda.
In the winter months, you might find him at the Brier or at the Aréna Maurice-Chaput as he was an avid fan of the Ste-Anne Aces. It was an unwritten rule that the northeast corner of the rink was 'reserved' for André Chaput. He also enjoyed watching the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
André always carried himself with dignity and class and inspired others to follow suit. He will be missed by his family and friends. André, and the footprint he left on our hearts and the community will always be remembered.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 1st, 2023, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. To view the livestream of the service, please visit birchwoodfuneralchapel.com and click the link in André's obituary.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Dear Terry and family. Loosing a loved one is very painful and to this we share your pain. Although we were neighbours and saw little of Andre, he certainly was a man of distinction. I recall one instance in particular. Jacqueline was just a baby, Andre walked through the door and immediately it was very clear that she was his STAR. He lit up seeing and holding her and Jacqueline responded. Mom, of course, came second! RIP Andre - Posted by: Leona & Glenn Butchart (Friend ) on: Jul 08, 2023

  • Lena and I are sending you our sincere condolences. It is hard to lose someone you have been with for a long time. But you have a good support team that will help you along.
