MURRAY KELLY
It is with a profound sadness that the family of Murray Kelly announce his passing on July 20, 2023, peacefully with his loving wife by his side. He was called to heaven after 93 years on earth, departing just how he wanted - on his terms at home.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws, siblings along with brothers and sisters-in-law.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Eleanore; daughters, Linda, Marie (Kevin), Diana, Brenda (Marc); grandchildren, Leah (Brennan), Alison (Scott), Nathan (Brittney), Steven (Jen), Mathew (Hailley), Rochelle (Ryan), Katherine (Nick), Eric (Breann); great-grandchildren, Nathan Jr, Maci-Lynne, Parker, Maya, Miles; sister Bernie; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Roberta (Jim); brothers-in-law, Wayne (Peggy), Steve as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Murray was born in New Brunswick where he enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and was stationed to Winnipeg in 1955. At a dance on the military base he met the love of his life, Eleanore and on November 9, 1957 the two were married. He served 27 years in the Air Force and during this time the family lived in Winnipeg then Belgium while he worked in France and Germany. When they moved back to Canada it was to Rivers, Manitoba then back to Winnipeg where he retired. Dad worked on aircraft engines which was a passion of his in addition to serving on a Search and Rescue crew.
Although he raised four daughters he instilled a hard work ethic in them and taught them all about playing baseball, camping, changing a tire on their vehicles and even baiting their own lures to fish. If they were going to fish the girls all had to learn left handed because he was a south paw. He often took his daughters and any neighbourhood kids that wanted to tag along fishing. Dad was an avid bowler which he did up until he was 90 years old. He liked to see how things worked often taking apart gifts and much to his wife’s chagrin their brand-new stereo system. He was able to get it all back together with everything working which most likely saved him from the doghouse had it not worked.
Murray was a member of the Fort Garry Legion for over 50 years and still drove his car right up until his passing. Even with his many accomplishments during his long life he would say his greatest achievement was his family. He loved them unconditionally while being a role model they could be proud of. A strong, kind and generous man that loved to laugh he could be adamant in his mindset. Someone larger than life to those that looked up to him it seemed as if he was eternal.
He will be missed by his loving family and as per Dad’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Kidney Foundation of Canada.
