CLAIRE HOLDSWORTH GREEN

(nee TURNER)

February 9, 1935 - July 24, 2023

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Claire Green at the age of 88, with loved ones by her side.

Claire is survived by Edward, her loving husband of 63 years; daughters, Fiona and her partner Barry, Jenny (Ayers) and her partner Brian, Diane (Rothdram) and her partner Mike; and son Ian and his partner Stephanie. She is predeceased by her parents, Marion and Stanley; and her sister Dierdre (Newson). Proud granny to Luna (Piscetta), Josh and Kathryn (Ayers), Sadie and Spencer (Green), Levi and Theo (Rothdram) and great-granny to Zari, Colby and Owen (Ayers).

Born in Yorkshire, England, Claire and Edward met in Oxford, married each other in York and moved to Nairobi, Kenya for five years, where Fiona and Jenny were born. After returning to England for three years, the family crossed the Atlantic Ocean by ship in 1967 to settle in Winnipeg, Canada, where she lived ever since. Five years later the family grew to include Diane and Ian.

In addition to raising four children, Claire was a health care professional, working at the Health Sciences Centre as an X-ray Technician for 18 years. Adventuresome by nature, she was a world-traveller who enjoyed seeing and learning about different people and places across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Active throughout her life, Claire enjoyed family ski trips to Snowbird, Utah, rounds of golf with family and friends, tennis, pickleball, regular trips to the gym and hiking in Assiniboine and Beaudry Parks.

Making friends easily, Claire had a large and supportive circle of friends drawn from her many activities, church community and vibrant social life. She often connected with others while in the service of those less fortunate.

She was happiest in the company of family and reflecting on her relationships with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funny, smart, independent, and always “up” for anything, Claire’s zest for life lived to the fullest was an inspiration to many. No words can express how much she will be missed or the wonderful gifts and memories that she has given us.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Colena Schatzley Bursary via cheque to the Westwood Presbyterian Church or by e-transfer to donation@westwoodpc.ca

  • On behalf of the Tuxedo Ladies Golf Club I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Claire’s husband and extended family in the loss of their wife, mother and friend. Claire was a member of the Tuxedo Ladies Golf Club for many years and her presence was always so warm and welcoming. She gave up golf to join the pickle ball craze but she dropped by a few times to visit with the ladies. She had a great sense of humor and everyone loved the opportunity to visit with her. She was a wonderful lady and I know she will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Sharon Lomonaco - Posted by: SHARON LOMONACO (MEMBER OF THE TUXEDO LADIES GOLF CLUB ) on: Sep 04, 2023

  • I was fortunate to meet Claire a few years ago when she wanted to tell the story of her life and that of her family in a book. I loved her enthusiasm and determination. It was clear there was nothing more important to her than her husband and family. It was an honour to meet Claire. My condolences to Ed and her children. - Posted by: Eleanor Suderman (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2023
