PHYLLIS ANNE TRACH

(nee HANESIAK)

Phyllis Anne Trach, nee Hanesiak, born November 30, 1926, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, with her family by her side, at Holy Family Home on August 21, 2023.

Phyllis is preceded by her husband Steve, father John, mother Lena and sister Margie. She is survived by her son Tim (Donna), grandchildren, David (Maegan) of Teulon, MB and Michael (Lisa) of Camrose, AB and her great-grandchildren, Billy, Willa and Lucas. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Mom was born in the home of her grandparents in the Prout District, west of Winnipeg Beach, MB. In 1929 the family moved to Stevenson Road in Winnipeg Beach. She spent her childhood in the small town and attended a four-room schoolhouse there. She met her husband, Steve, at a dance and was married in 1947. They spent several years living and running a small store in Pleasant Home. The couple later moved to Winnipeg in 1952 with their son Tim. There, Mom worked at Canada Safeway for a several years.

Family was Mom's priority in life and she treasured the times spent together. She always enjoyed her time with family at her second home in Winnipeg Beach and the cottage at Lake Wanipegow. Her greatest joy was spending time outdoors with her grandsons. They would go on walks, play on the tire swing and the boys would go fishing with their grandpa. She would be waiting for them to bring home the catch of the day and would fry up a tasty feast of fresh pickerel.

Mom was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother with the birth of Billy in 2015. Two more great-grandchildren followed with Willa born in 2018 and Lucas born in 2021. She adored each one of them and was a loving presence in their lives. She surrounded herself with pictures of the children and her family in her room at Holy Family Home.

Mom was a generous and dedicated member of her community and Church. She attended St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg and was a member for over 50 years. She became heavily involved in St. Joseph's Seniors group, holding executive positions over the years, including president. She was honoured to be UCWLC (Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada) president for five years. She also kindly volunteered her time at Seven Oaks hospital for over 20 years.

We would like to thank the staff at Holy Family Home, St. Mary's Unit for their care and kindness. Your personal friendships with Mom were an important part of her final years and we appreciate the support and compassion that were shown to her. You are all extraordinary people.

In accordance with Mom's wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg, MB.
