Sadly, we announce the passing of our wonderful mom and grandma, Elizabeth “Betty” Greeley. Mom passed away in the morning of September 7 at Oakview Extendicare.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Charles Greeley; sister Irene Castle; and many close friends and family who were an important part of her 90 years. She is survived by her daughter Katherine; grandson Kyle; and granddaughter Meghan in BC.
Born in Dundee, Scotland, Mom came to Winnipeg in 1956 and began employment at Western Savings and Loan. On September 6, 1958, she married the love of her life, Charles Greeley. As fate would have it, both were from Dundee and met in Winnipeg. Over their 61 years of marriage together they shared much love, laughter, and kindness with each other and everyone in their lives.
Betty returned to work at The Bay Unicity, after ten years at home raising her daughter. She worked there until she retired.
Mom enjoyed many years of fellowship at St. David’s Presbyterian Church, the Ladies’ Guild, and as a volunteer at Deer Lodge Centre. Mom was an incredible hostess. She loved to cook, bake, and entertain, and her home was always a gathering place for a simple cup of tea or dinner parties and holiday gatherings.
Mom loved to travel. Her and dad were fortunate to have enjoyed many trips together over the years. Camping trips to the US, and trips to Bermuda, Portugal, Morocco, Holland and the UK. However, Mom’s favourite trips were to BC to visit her grandkids. She said she never knew how much love her heart could hold until someone called her Grandma.
A big thank you to the staff at Oakview for the care, kindness and comfort provided to Mom.
As promised, I am bringing Mom and Dad home to Scotland in the spring.
If you choose, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Or, in mom’s spirit, give your gift of time to someone in need.
Betty’s family requests that you visit her tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography as well as memories and stories published by those who knew her are available there.

Condolences to Katherine and family. I met Betty in 1984 when I started working at HBC. She was a great mentor and a great person. She knew how to get the job done but made it fun. Rest in peace, Betty - Posted by: Pat Bachmann (Coworker ) on: Sep 18, 2023
