SAMANTHA MAREK-HUSTON
We are so very brokenhearted to share the unexpected passing of Samantha Marek-Huston on September 19, 2023. She was 24 years old.
She was predeceased by her father Bryan Huston; her grandparents, Ken Marek, Gerald Huston, and Elaine Kaglik; great-auntie Ethel and great-uncle Dennis Kowal; great-uncle Ron Marek; and cousins, Carissa Kowal and Emily Rud. She was also cherished and predeceased by her great-grandparents.
She was loved and is survived by her parents, Shannon and Blaine McDougall; grandmother Jane Marek; uncles, Chris (Victoria) Marek, Ryan Marek and Doug Huston; auntie Jordon (Todd) Crompton; cousins, Matthew (Jordanna) Marek, Rael Kulchycki (Jesse) and son Wesley, and Jared Kulchycki (Winnie); adoptive auntie Leslie Ternowetsky and adoptive uncle Neil (Lori) Ternowetsky, as well as their four children she loved so dearly; adoptive grandfather and great-uncle Terry Drebit; great-auntie Judy (Karmon) Ternowetsky, great-uncle Don (Patty) Drebit, and great-uncle Bill (Lorna) Drebit; great-great-uncle Mike; all her many, many, many cousins; and so many others too numerous to mention.
She enjoyed singing, dancing and acting. She also enjoyed music and learned how to play the guitar. For the past six years, Samantha was a member of the drama group The Crescent Arts Centre (CAC). Samantha was an accomplished writer and could always be found with a notebook and pen ready for when a story was floating around her head. If you were lucky enough to be on her contact list you could expect many texts with her story ideas.
She made friends easily and everywhere she went. Many of her friends were from Options Pathways and Transitions. She so looked forward to her days spent with everyone there.
Samantha loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She was a well-travelled young woman and had been all around Manitoba, from Swan River to Buffalo Point, including spending every May Long Weekend in Ethelbert and one week every year at Clear Lake with her family. She also travelled to Mexico, Cuba, Disneyworld and several times to visit family in WIlliams Lake, British Columbia - stopping at all the malls along the way.
We would like to thank the emergency room staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Nurse Jesse and Spiritual Care Worker Justin for taking care of Samantha and her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield Street. Samantha lived a life in full colour, including her wardrobe, so we encourage everyone to honour her by wearing colour as well. Interment to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Crescent Arts Centre (CAC). Please visit their website at www.crescentartscentre.ca to learn more about their organization. Donations will also be accepted at the service.
