It is with great sadness that the family of Metro Salyn announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, September 26th, at the age of 94; 27 days after Violet, his wife of 72 years. They are now together forever.
Metro was born in Wroxton, Saskatchewan on October 24th, 1928. He married Violet Malenki on June 17th, 1951, in Canora, Saskatchewan. They settled in Brandon where they raised their family of five daughters.
Metro was an extremely hard worker who worked the majority of his life in the meat packing industry, and retired from Burns Meats in 1991. He spent the greater part of 1966 building the family home at 641 Rideau Street where they resided for over 50 years.
He was a loving husband and devoted father. Any time someone needed a helping hand he was there for them and never expected anything in return. He was a kind man of few words and his sense of humor was enjoyed by all.
Metro was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary; infant daughter Cheryl; daughter Kimberley Derlago; sister Anne and brothers Mike, Steve, Bill, George, Harry, Pete, Fred, Mervin and Orest.
Lovingly remembered by their four daughters, Cindy (Jack) Stouffer, Charlene (Steve) Manning, Cathie Salyn and Donna (Stu) Brown; grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) Hattie, Meaghan Stouffer, Curtis Manning, Jenna Stouffer, Brittanee (Jacob) Dreyer, Scott (Jess) Manning; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler and Tessa Hattie, Jaxen, and Jhett Manning and Isla Stouffer; sister Olga Blazeiko and brother Tony (Liz).
We would like to thank the warm and caring staff at Golden West Lodge in Winnipeg where he resided on the 4th floor since April 2022.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Metro and Violet in the summer of 2024.
