ROY VERNER JOHNSON

Our beloved husband and father passed away peacefully on September 23rd at the age of 83.

He will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Virginia; daughters, Colleen (Scott), Michelle (Mark); grandchildren, Henry, Matthew, Julia and Olivia; brother Wayne (Roseanne).

He was predeceased by his parents, Verner and Ede Johnson and by his brother Grant (Iris).

Roy enjoyed a 36 year teaching career in Rathwell, Treherne, AFCENT International School in the Netherlands, then the majority of his career in Assiniboine South School Division as a teacher and administrator.

Roy remained active in retirement, involved in student work experience placement, and serving as a Returning Officer during three federal elections.

As a member of Sylvia Recreation, Roy served as president of the committee that oversaw the building of Vasa Lund Estates. He was equally proud of his role in establishing the Oak Park Raiders football program.

He enjoyed travelling, cycling with his bike club, curling, golf, and duplicate bridge. He loved spending time with his family and friends, summer at the family cottage at Delta and winter ski or sun holidays.

He is remembered as a kind, calm, friendly man who wore a constant smile.

Thank you to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their compassion and care during the last two months of his life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to Parkinson Canada.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 12, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., location details to follow.
