GARY KEEDIAN

It is with heavy hearts that the Keedian family announces the passing of Gary Keedian on September 23, 2023.

Gary leaves behind his loving wife, Diane of 61 years and three daughters, Erin, Shauna, and April (Darrell). Gary leaves behind his best friend and only sibling, Jackie Waddell. Gary also leaves behind a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn, and Doug Smith, as well as nieces and nephews: Lindsay (George), Karen, Garth (Jan), Harley (Tara), Andrea (Morgan), and Megan (Joe). Gary was predeceased by his parents, Annie (Daman) and Roy Keedian as well as many other family members and friends.

Gary was born in Birds Hill and stayed close. Gary’s father Roy owned and operated the garage in Birds Hill where Gary developed an appreciation for cars. Gary started work at Imperial Oil in East St. Paul, at 19 years old where he remained until he retired in 1994. Gary was a sports fan and a team player. Growing up, Gary played baseball, hockey, football, even curling. Gary played hockey until 1995 when he was benched from the East St. Paul Oldtimers, after surgery. Gary played baseball for teams like the Betula Lake Association and the Flashbacks. He played into his 80s, despite his hip replacements. As an adult, Gary added horseshoes and volleyball to his sporting life. Gary also loved nature, including the Betula Lake cabin, the Whiteshell Provincial Park, and the annual duck hunting trips with his uncles. He loved animals, and welcomed his family’s many pets, even adopting a series of cats. Gary enjoyed hearing all the family’s eccentric pet stories, the more embarrassing a pet’s behaviour was to its owner, the more Gary enjoyed the story.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Gordon-King Memorial Church, 127 Coburg Avenue at 1:00 p.m. on October 6, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My condolences to the Keedian family. Gary was a good guy. I worked with him at the Esso Geo Centre on Henderson Highway in East St. Paul in Winnipeg from June 1972 - September 1973 when I got transferred to Edmonton. It was my first job after graduation from Red River College. I believe he, Pat Toderian, Ted Golmer and Adolph Schurek and their wives were at my wedding in October 1973. I have thought of Gary many times over the past 50 years. R.I.P. Gary. - Posted by: Gary Frost (Work Colleague ) on: Oct 07, 2023

  • Dear Diane and girls, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a lovely man. He was kind and funny and I really enjoyed our lunches. It was so nice to see the close relationship you had as a family, because we don't all have that. He will be missed by a lot of people, and if you don't mind I'll make a donation to Final Furlong in his name. - Posted by: Emily Johnson (Friend ) on: Oct 04, 2023
