EDITH IRENE STOBART

February 22, 1923 – October 2, 2023

Subsequent to a stroke in June, Mom passed peacefully in her apartment at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Rita, her husband Tom, and her son-in-law Wayne. Mom is survived by her sister Shirl, her children Jack (Gail), Rick (Sheila) and Susan, her grandchildren John (Krista), Mike (Jill), Andrew (Nicole), Mark and Nicole (Rob), her great-grandchildren Hudson, Adalyn, Corvin, Tristan, Elliot and Iris, as well as nieces, nephews and very special friends.

Mom was born in Winnipeg to Sidney and Hilda Hogg as a first child. She subsequently had two sisters – Rita and Shirl. All three were a delight to everyone with their senses of humour, good natures and warmth. The depression made life tough for this family of five when Sid lost his job. Mom always remembered that despite hard times and knowing how difficult things were financially, there was a never-ending supply of laughter and love within their household. The next challenge was the Second World War. Our Mom and Dad met at the beginning of the war and although they kept in touch throughout this difficult time, they waited until after the war was over before they married in 1945. The household eventually expanded to include Jack, Rick and Susan. Mom loved her children and family beyond all else – family times were the most important thing in her life. Her sense of humor, her kind and compassionate ways, and her warm heart ensured that throughout her lifetime, she was loved by many and will be missed by many. Despite the many world challenges, she lived through, Mom expressed several times over the last couple of years that COVID was the most difficult life challenge she had ever faced because of its isolation. We are all so happy that she lived to celebrate 100 years this past February. It was an exciting day for her and all who chose to celebrate with her. Over the past several years, as her eyesight diminished and her mobility deteriorated, life became more difficult for Mom. The final straw was the stroke she experienced this past June which completely minimized her independence and stole her quality of life.

The family are grateful for the kind, compassionate, respectful caring our mother received from her homecare workers as well as the nurses and aides at the Shaftesbury.

Interment has already taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
