RUTH KANTYLUK

1934 - 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Kantyluk on October 13th with family by her side. Mom was 89 years young. She is reunited with her husband Ernie Kantyluk who predeceased her in December 2015.

Mom met Dad on a double date… and he was not her date that evening. Their future dates would include rides on the train to Winnipeg Beach Dance Hall and sharing many Kelekis fries.

During her career at Canada Packers she developed a diligent work ethic and lifelong friendships. She was still FaceTiming with her girlfriend and past coworker Alma.

Mom was a Lioness where she enjoyed many friendships while raising funds for the community. She was also an active member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church.

Her first joy was her family, and she will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Chris) Kantyluk, Michael (Kim) Kantyluk, and Sandra (Lance) McKillop; grandchildren, Derek and Katie Kantyluk, Daniel Kantyluk (Sarah), Erin Walker (Michael), Jeremy Kantyluk (Bailey), Meaghan Wright (Logan), and Mitchell McKillop (Rebecca); and great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Hudson Wright. The more family, the more birthday celebrations, and most importantly – more Jeannie’s cake!

Almost equally she love doing puzzles, reading, playing cards, dice, and especially crib with her family. She took great pleasure in “skunking” her opponents. She enjoyed her trips to the casino with Helen. Mom was very lucky and won two vehicles.

Mom’s baking was second to none, and her chocolate chip recipe is currently part of a family bake off. She loved to sew and patch jeans and could not for the life of her understand the latest ripped jeans trend. Her crochet tea towels are in many homes across the country.

She looked forward to daily calls with her sister and friend Blanche, who is the last of five siblings, Isabella “Isabel” Stephen, Jack “John” McIntosh, Bill “Willy” McIntosh, Blanche “Benny” Warnock and “Ruthie”. They grew up in Elmwood where she played hockey and curled.

Mom was known to say “white rabbit” on the first of the month for luck, and wish on the first robin in the spring - even if the robin turned out to be a Labattes Blue beer bottle on a fence!

She was part magician and could load up a trailer within minutes of our dad calling, and never forgetting to include the sand in the tuna sandwich, and leaving with at least one trailer light working. Many summers were enjoyed at West Hawk with her best friend Bernice, often sitting around the fire with the special wood (pressure treated).

She loved people and had many friends from her moves to Edmonton, Prince George, Thunder Bay, but Winnipeg was always home.

We would like to thank the Kildonan Personal Care Home. We will be forever grateful for the care they provided. We would be remiss to not mention how blessed we were to have our brother Michael and his wife Kim always ready to provide for all of Mom’s needs. They always helped with full hearts.

A private service has been held by family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

If you are lucky enough to still have your mom, give her an extra squeeze just because you can.
