BYRON JACK MARTIN

OCTOBER 27, 1943 – OCTOBER 6, 2023

Surrounded by the love of his family, Byron passed away at the Victoria Hospital just three weeks before his 80 birthday.

Mourning the loss of Byron is his loving wife of 58 years, Jenny, and their two sons Brent (Leanne) and Blaine (Olia), his brother Bill (Ruth), sister Kathy. Byron was predeceased by his parents Jack and Heddie Martin.

Byron grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, playing and excelling in many sports. He loved the Blue Jays, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets.

It was on his way to play baseball (with glove in hand) at 15 years old that he met his love of his life, Jenny. Family was most important to Byron, from dinners, to family holidays, to family cottage time at Buffalo Point (Lake of the Woods). In fact, in 1979 Byron was the first president of the Buffalo Point Cottage Association.

Byron spent his early days in Consumer Finance Services as District Manager of Manitoba and Saskatchewan at AVCO Finance, associated with the AVCO cup of the original Winnipeg Jets of the WHA.

Byron later went on to a successful 40 year career in Real Estate with his family Jenny, Brent, and Blaine to form the Martin Family Real Estate Team at RE/MAX Performance.

Byron was a proud and lucky Irish man that will definitely find his pot of gold in Heaven at the end of the rainbow.

We love you always and miss you more than words can say.

Funeral service to take place on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.

  • Jenny, my heart goes out to you. I have so many wonderful memories of both of you and these memories go back over 50 years! First meeting BJ within the Avco family when I worked for Al Drul, then our connection to both of you when we bought our home in Winnipeg. I remember lots of visits back and forth during our 10 years in Winnipeg and also visits to your cottage at Lake of the Woods. Even after leaving Winnipeg (BJ listed and sold our home), it was wonderful to keep in touch. I am just so sorry that this summer did not include a trip to Winnipeg on my part. Byron was so very special - he just absolutely LOVED people. My sincere condolences and long distance hugs to you, Brent, and Blaine. - Posted by: Bonnie Reid (friend) on: Oct 26, 2023

  • I first met Byron in 1984 when I started in real estate at NRS Block Bros Realty. Byron and Jenny lived in Southdale and did the majority of real estate business in that area. At the time, as a new agent, he was one I wanted to emmulate. We worked together at the same Remax office for over 20 years. I would often bump into him while grocery shopping in the St Vital mall and whenever I would see him, he always had a huge smile on his face. He would stop and we'd chat about his family. He was an unforgettable man and I'll miss seeing him now and then. Val joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to Jenny, Brent, Blaine and families. - Posted by: Hazen Steeves (Friend and Colleague) on: Oct 21, 2023
