CYRIL GOOLIA
On November 4, 2023, Cyril Goolia passed away peacefully, with family by his side, in Winnipeg, at the age of 88.
Cyril was born in Tacarigua, Trinidad and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1956. Cyril's strong work ethic was unmatched, working in various jobs to make ends meet and get established in his new home. He often worked around the clock owning and driving taxi. He eventually moved on to a career at VIA Rail where he enjoyed a 32 year career progressing up the ranks to Service Manager before retiring in 1995. Cyril enjoyed gardening, doing projects around the house and most of all spending time with loved ones. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - instilling in them good values and teaching life skills like perfecting the art of snow shoveling and then often hopping into the car for a drive and a treat.
He was the patriarch of the family - a gentle, kind soul, always there whenever you needed him, loved unconditionally and always put everyone else's needs before his own.
Cyril leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Jean; daughters, Kim Goolia and Karen Bevacqua (Wayne Roche); his grandchildren, Jennifer (Alex) Silaghi, Stephanie Bevacqua (Rui Santos); four great-grandchildren, Braedan, Mera, Treyan and Lev; sisters, Dolly and Sita; brothers, Kumar, Son and Pano and numerous nieces and nephews. Cyril was predeceased by his mother Ramdaye Goolia; his brother Duphlal Goolia and his sister Mattie Goolia.
Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end; it simply means
I’ll miss you until we meet again.
Love you Gramps.
Many thanks to Dr. Angela Young and the compassionate staff at the Health Sciences Centre.
As per Cyril's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

My mother, Dolly Rambaran, was Cyril’s elder sister. My parents, 3 siblings and I lived with Uncle Cyril for 2 years, 1967 – 1969, after emigrating from Trinidad, West Indies to Winnipeg. I remember during that time Uncle Cyril drove taxi, as well as worked on the train, being gone for a week or so at a time. Before he left he would give me a list of words to look up in the dictionary. I had to find the meanings of those words, write them down, and give him the list upon his return. I do not know how he arrived at the list of words, I only knew I had to get it done! I grew up loving books and reading. To this day I still look up words in the dictionary – online too – and fondly remember Uncle Cyril instilling this habit in me. On behalf of my mother Dolly, brother Vish, sister Shaney (and family) and myself, Sharmain (and spouse), our prayers are extended to Jean, Kim and Karen, and their extended families. - Posted by: Sharmain Rambaran (Niece) on: Nov 10, 2023

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Goolia. He has been our neighbour for 46 years and we will miss seeing him out in the yard, tending to his garden and sharing stories of yesteryear. Such a kind hearted man. God Speed Cyril. Heaven has gained a new Angel. - Posted by: The Foti Family (Neighbours) on: Nov 10, 2023
