MARIE SCHNERCH
It is with immense sadness and heavy but full hearts that the family of Marie Schnerch (nee Sharpe) shares her passing, comfortably in Palliative Care, on November 30, 2023.
Family was always extremely important to Marie. In her youth, she enjoyed spending several summer weeks each year at her Mémère’s waterfront property in Petersfield, Manitoba, along with her mother Elizabeth, brother André, and Auntie Emma and her three children, Yvonne, Victor, and Philip. She also had fond memories of visiting the Roblin Hotel, a men’s hotel in the inner city owned and managed by her Mémère and Uncle Tommy, later with support from Cousin Camille. Marie’s fondness for those days and her family and friends was brought to life beautifully in two of her collections of short stories, Summers with Memere and The Roblin (the latter of which was co-authored with Cousin Camille), as well as a collection of short stories about her father Harry, a highly decorated veteran injured in the Second World War, in Tin Head. Eventually she married and had a rambunctious son, whom she bestowed her love and wisdom upon, and who loved her very, very much. Marie cared dutifully for her mother, her husband, and later her brother, who all predeceased her, without complaint. In recent years, in the midst of the challenges of a global pandemic, Marie got to see her family grow once more, with a beautiful, wide-eyed grandson Kabriel looking up at her and calling her “Nana”, and whom she loved with all her heart, speaking some of her last words on this mortal earth of how very proud she was of that little boy. She will be deeply missed by Gabriel, Crystal, Kabriel, and all her many cousins and friends.
As per her wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no service.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers or other tributes, a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in her honour would be appreciated. Prayers in her name are always appreciated.
The following was added by Kabriel (age 2) when left unattended, briefly, by the computer…

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marie's family and loved ones. I worked with Marie and her late husband Frank at Air Canada. She enjoyed travelling and always had great stories to tell us after her trips. She is with Jesus and his angels and her loved ones who are no longer with us. Heaven has been blessed by another very special Angel called Marie. Rest in peace our dear friend. With Love and Respect, Sylvia and Gordon Bowen. - Posted by: Sylvia and Gordon Bowen, (Worked with Marie at Air Canada) on: Dec 23, 2023
