Peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Rose Kowalchuk passed away at the age of 92 on December 8, 2023.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Jim (2022), their infant son, her parents, seven siblings and a son-in-law. She is survived by her loving family of six children, 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Rose was born in Ethelbert, MB and grew up nearby on the family farm in Mink Creek. At age 16 she left to be a nanny for her brother’s family in BC for a year before returning to Winnipeg where she lived with her sisters. She became a telephone switchboard operator and was later transferred to Dauphin, MB. There she met and fell in love with Jim, an RCMP officer, and they were married on February 2, 1952. They were posted to Winnipeg, Ottawa, Sudbury, Montreal, and back to Winnipeg. Together they provided a loving home for their ever-growing family.
The family would like to especially thank Rosemarie, as well as Wionnie, and the other healthcare aides who supported Mom through the last several years. We also appreciate the care Mom received at Seven Oaks Hospital in her final days. In addition, the family expresses gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Rose’s life, accessible through the ‘tributes’ link at the bottom of this obituary.
In keeping with Rose’s wishes, a private family service was held at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Rose’s memory to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
