Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKYRIAKOS VOGIATZAKIS
Our beloved Kyriakos, born April 19, 1972, in Winnipeg, was tragically taken from us on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the age of 51 years young.
Left to mourn his passing are his mother Helen; brothers, Mike (Sharon), Nick (Nancy), and Peter (Lucy); nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends as well as his Cork & Flame family.
We are comforted knowing that he has joined his father Chris, whom he missed greatly.
Kyriakos had an unbreakable bond with his mother, Helen. After his father’s death, he took it upon himself to ensure she wasn’t alone and that she was safe. They were truly each other’s pillars of strength. He adored his nieces and nephews, and they adored him. Kyriakos - or as they knew him growing up “Uncle Sandy” - used to take them for haircuts and ice cream, to movies, or just to spend quality time. He even arranged his niece’s grad date (she can laugh now). More recently Kyriakos was the first willing to donate his kidney to his niece who needed a transplant. This was a testament to his selfless love for his family.
Kyriakos enjoyed having his brothers’ company, he would want everyone to meet them when they’d stop by for a visit. If you were a friend of Kyriakos, you’d have to meet his brothers too, and if not, he’d probably tell you about them. He loved his brothers so much. Kyriakos loved to tease them, a little brother trait that was never-ending. We are grateful for the memories.
Kyriakos enjoyed being at the lake at Buffalo Point with his mom, brothers, and their families. He would even close the restaurant to bring his staff so he could share with them what brought him joy. Having Kyriakos at the lake meant fishing competitions and fires that would take your eyebrows off and burn into the night. He was the “life of the party” even if there was no party. His energy was unmatched, however contagious, and always welcome.
Kyriakos’ journey here was short but meaningful. With his golden heart, he helped many people - whether he fed them, brought them together, or simply brought a smile to their faces.
His positive spirit was admirable, and his dedication and ambition remained inspirational. To Kyriakos, no goal was unreachable, whether it was the River Rouge or the Cork & Flame, where his dreams became reality. He made new friends, a second family, and another home in a beautiful community. A community he was proud to be a part of and to serve.
The tremendous outpouring of support from family, friends, and the community has given us strength in a time of sorrow. Thank you. We would like to express our gratitude to Father Nikolaos for being at our side as we grieve. And a special thank you to the staff at Cork & Flame for your dedication, while helping us through services, and for being there for Kyriakos. Kyriakos’ dream was the Cork & Flame restaurant and to honour that, we re-opened on Friday, February 2, 2024.
In memory of Kyriakos, do something kind for someone else.

is our most glorious task.”

The city of Winnipeg has truly lost a great citizen, entrepreneur, businessman, and a true friend with a big heart of gold. A friend who loved to give in more ways than one, and be a world of encouragement to everyone he met. In the short time I knew Kyriakos, this is the personality and human touch he had as a human being. We need more people like Kyriakos in our world. Rest in peace my friend. We will meet and see you again in a much better and eternal environment. Blessings. Vogiatzakis Family, On behalf of my family, I express our deepest sympathy and offer our prayers for your tragic loss. Words can’t do justice in light of the loss of our friend, but he will always be dear to our hearts. Kyriakos, had a big heart and compassion not only for the Greek community but for his fellow man with an extraordinary ability to cultivate friendships, display a positive attitude, help others, and possessed a talent to convey entertainment. On a personal note, he always went the extra effort to please his customers, friends, acquaintances and strangers. I saw that when he served my folks at the restaurant, the many AHEPA events, and his efforts at making Winnipeg a better place; whether it was through music, the boat, restaurant, or charitable community efforts. His philoxenia made everyone feel like part of the family. For that he has set an example for us all to follow and be inspired. Eonia Eimnemi (May his memory be eternal). - Posted by: William Constan and Family (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2024

The AHEPA Family expresses deepest condolences and offers prayers for your sudden and tragic loss. Our brother remains dear to our hearts. As a member of the Order of AHEPA Polikos Aster Chapter CJ8 since 2014, Kyriakos conveyed dynamism as he strove with compassion and a big heart at participating and organizing several AHEPA events. Whether it was at the 2017 AHEPA Edmonton District Convention, the AHEPA Picnics, OXI Day Memorial Banquet or the 2018 Winnipeg District Convention he always strove for perfection and sought unity (facilitating himself as a unifier) within the Greek Community to get things done in order to fulfill the goals of Hellenism. His congenial openness, kindness, and ability to get along with people always made you feel at ease and appreciated. This was demonstrated through his many interactions with the AHEPA brothers, customers, friends, family, acquaintances, and strangers – a hallmark of philoxenia. Through his enterprising efforts he strove to the make Winnipeg a better place; whether it was through music, the river boat, restaurant, or charitable community efforts. Sophocles one said: “that to be doing good deeds is our most glorious task” Kyriakos truly set a high bar for us all to follow in glory. His contribution to life fulfilled the ideals of Hellenism which include: education, philanthropy, family & individual excellence, education, and civic responsibly through community service and volunteerism. This community has experienced a great loss to our friend Mike. As we gather tonight with candles to celebrate this man whom we loved, laughed with and had the privilege of his caring for our happy times we shared in the Cork and Flame. May his memory continue to inspire and uplift us as we navigate this world without him. Together as a community we honor his legacy and cherish every moment we shared. Rest in Peace our dear friend Mike. Forever etched in our memories never forgotten. Lezlee and David McCuaig - Posted by: Lezlee McCuaig and David McCuaig (Patron of restaurant) on: Jan 28, 2024

Condolences to all family and friends. It was such a tragedy to hear of his passing. We've known his brother Mike through Voyage for many years who's been so good to our families. We met Kyriakos at the Cork and Flame by asking him if anyone ever told him he looked like Mike from Voyage..... And low and behold they were brothers. He was so welcoming and friendly, we had a few laughs and a drink together that night. He will definitely be missed by so many people. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Jackie and Mike Touchette (Acquaintance/ customer ) on: Jan 27, 2024
