DIANA ELIZABETH PENNINGTON

1935 - 2024

Diana quietly slipped away at Red River Place in Selkirk where she has resided for many years since leaving her beloved Tehani at Victoria Beach.

She is survived by her brother Arthur Pennington; her sister-in-law Sheila (Ben); niece Ann (Kevin Little); Rachel Alexandra, William Pennington; nephew Alex Pennington (Cheryl Thistle); Jessica, Carson. She was predeceased by her lifelong friend Dorothy (Dot) Smith and by her parents.

Diana was an adventurous young woman globetrotting to explore countries and cultures and attending her favourite event during her travels – Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Garden Party in London, England. Upon her return to Canada, she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and as cadets she met her lifelong friend Dot (Dorothy) Smith. When they settled in Winnipeg, they both focused on obtaining their teacher training and then taught in the Fort Garry School Division. Upon retirement and moving to Victoria Beach they settled at Tehani.

Diana was a long time friend, teacher, traveler, monarchist, Victoria Beach Counsellor and “lady of the lake”. Diana and Dot knew their neighbours on McCawley Road and McCord Drive well, and were supportive, helpful and discreet. Many a game of Trivial Pursuit was played at the end of the day, accompanied by lots of laughter and love.

Diana leaves a gap in the lives of family and friends with her passing.

And Diana ended visits and calls with: “Pushagunna”.

To you dear friend, rest in peace.

Cremation has taken place, and there is no service (according to her wishes).
