Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I first met Syd in the mid 60s when I had a summer job at the Shell Oil refinery on Panet Rd. where Syd was employed. I remember him being so friendly even back then. I was awestruck when I saw Syd's physique in the changing/locker room each day.. He was not at all pretentious or showy, just a regular guy. I later met up with Syd, and his wife Marie, in 1973 thru 1975 when I was competing in the Mr. Manitoba competition that he was organizer of in his role as president of the provincial bodybuilding association. Syd and Marie were extremely dedicated to the sport and to the success of the annual event and were always there to support me and all of the other competitors regardless of whether they won, placed, or simply participated. After my my competition days ended I became a judge of the annual provincial event at Syd's request and did that under his guidance for a couple of years. I have nothing but respect and fond memories of Syd, may he rest in peace. My condolences to Marie and son Rick who I also knew. No one has done more to advance the sport of bodybuilding in Manitoba than Syd Pukalo has. - Posted by: David Johnson (Body building acquaintance/friend ) on: Feb 25, 2024

  • I met Mr Pukalo when I entered my first BB contest, he guided me through the process and was always a pleasure to talk with, I remember he enjoyed showing me the gym in his basement on Munroe...Gordie Skazyk - Posted by: gordon skazyk (friend) on: Feb 12, 2024
