ANGELA BORELLI

November 28, 1943 - February 3, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Angela Borelli.

Angela was born November 28, 1943, in Termini Imerese, a small town in Sicily. She was the youngest of two girls born to Maria and Giovanni Sallemi. Angela and her sister Beatrice had a happy childhood but like many post-war Italians Maria made the difficult decision to immigrate to Canada in 1956 to join her brother Tony Rinella in search of a more prosperous life in Canada.

The three girls arrived in Winnipeg’s West End. Mom, who had a passion for fashion, took an interest in hair styling and enrolled in beauty school. During this time, she met Vittorio Borelli who would become her partner for life. They were married in 1964. Four children would eventually follow, Maria (Stacey), Raffaele (Katerina), Giovanni (Sandra) and Michael.

Her successful career as a hair stylist began at a small salon in Transcona. Eventually an opportunity to purchase and manage the salon presented itself. Angela’s Coiffure was a very successful business for nearly 30 years with her at the helm. Many of her employees and customers became lifelong friends and we are certain they will miss her dearly.

Family was always a priority. Highlights include summers at the cottage, holiday feasts, Sunday pasta, and countless backyard pool parties. As much as her passing pains everyone, we are grateful that grandchildren Victoria, Gabriella, Vittorio, Samantha, Alessandro and Giuliana had the opportunity to make cherished memories with her - including a once in a lifetime family trip to Italy.

She was predeceased by her father Giovanni in 1980, mother Maria in 2013, husband Vittorio in 2016. She is survived by her sister Beatrice, four children, seven grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street. Prior to the service, condolences and viewing will commence at 12:30 p.m. Entombment and reception will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, 1 Green Acres Lane.

  • My name is Lori Prokopchuk, my parents Tom and Rina Romeo were very good friends. I would like to pass on my condolences to Angie’s entire family. She truly was a wonderful person and such a dear friend to my Mom. Throughout the years Angie made many visits to my mom in her home and later in personal care. She brightened my mom’s day with every visit. I sadly have missed the funeral as I am out of town but my sister came to represent our family, my thoughts are with all of you and I know that the 4 friends are reunited. - Posted by: Lori Prokopchuk (Family friend) on: Feb 11, 2024
