Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. ROBIN ANDREWS
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Dr. Robin Andrews at the Brandon General Hospital on February 22, 2024 at the age of 93.
Robin is survived by his loving wife Helen, his three children Nicola, Stewart (Janet) and Catriona (Peter), his four grandchildren Lucien (Ronna), Marielle (Brenin), Nadine (Mitchell), and Sonja. He also has two cherished great-grandsons, Max and Ben.
Robin was born and spent his early years in India. He was sent to boarding school in England at the age of eight, spending his childhood there during the Second World War. Robin graduated from London University Medical School in 1954. He then served three years as Flight Lieutenant, Medical Officer with the Royal Air Force.
When Robin returned to England he specialized in obstetrics and gynaecology. While working in Kent he fell in love with a young Scottish midwife named Helen Stewart, which changed the course of his life. Robin and Helen were married and after five years of general practice decided to immigrate to Brandon, Manitoba. Robin was a founding partner of the Western Medical Clinic. Family medicine was his calling, and “Dr. Andrews” touched many lives. During his years of family medicine, he made many contributions to the hospital and medical community. He served terms as the President of the Manitoba Chapter of the College of Family Physicians and as the Chief of Staff at Brandon General Hospital. In 1989 Robin felt honoured to be awarded Family Physician of the Year for Manitoba. He enjoyed mentoring medical students for many years and truly loved caring for his patients.
Robin took pleasure in exploring southwestern Manitoba with the family and enjoyed all seasons in the prairies. On countryside drives with camera in hand we discovered spring crocuses, sand dunes, ferries, and he instilled in us a love for nature. We all cherish memories of skiing at Glenorky. He cross country skied at the Brandon Hills well into his eighties. Robin had a passion for sailing, canoeing, kayaking and cycling. His favourite place was the cottage at Clear Lake, exploring Riding Mountain National Park, delighting in the wildlife, and spending time with family.
After retirement Robin became a watercolour artist, painting prairie landscapes. He was honoured to have his own art exhibition at the Hamiota Art Gallery in 2016.
Those who met Robin knew him to be a true gentleman and friend. He and Helen had a fabulous social life. Their home was always open to their many friends and family for meals, conversation and laughter.
He will be missed.
The family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Duncan, the staff at Daughter on Call, Glynis with Home Care, and the palliative care unit at Brandon General Hospital.
In accordance with his wishes a cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held this spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Brandon General Hospital Foundation, A3 Palliative Care Unit.

We are so saddened to learn of Dr. Andrews' passing. We first got to know him when Elsie started to work at the Western Medical Clinic, and though he was not her family doctor, the on-call care he provided during our first pregnancy was much appreciated. When, in 1991, I needed to choose a doctor to administer chemotherapy, our choice was Dr. Andrews. That was the beginning of a lifelong relationship, both as physician-patient, but also as friends. His care during my battle with cancer is the stuff of legends. From the day of my first treatment, when I asked for the numbers of my lab tests, and he turned the file so that we could read the results together, it felt that we were a team, fighting this terminal illness. Having become operable through the use of chemotherapy, I will never forget his personal phone call to me following my surgery in Health Sciences Centre, nor his words when he said, “Henry, I have waited my entire career to see a miracle, and now I believe I have!” He continued as my Family Doctor until his retirement, and when Elsie and I hosted a celebration dinner after five years, Robin and Helen Andrews were the first to accept the invitation. And, several years later, when the Canadian Cancer Society chose to honour me as the Manitoba recipient of the Medal of Courage, Dr. And Mrs. Andrews were in Winnipeg to share the celebration. Dr. Andrews was simply the epitome of a caring health care provider. We love him and will miss him, but his memory will live for years in our hearts and the hearts of our family. Rest in peace, our dear doctor! - Posted by: Henry Buhler (Patient and friend) on: Mar 13, 2024
