MICHAEL (MICK) GOWENLOCK

It is with great sorrow we announce that on February 16, 2024 Michael (Mick) Gowenlock lost his battle with cancer. He passed away at the age of 73 with his family by his side.

Mick is survived by his wife of 45 plus years Karyn, his two sons Andrew (Melissa), Ian (Zita), and grandson Alan. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob (and family), Ron, and sister Valerie (and family).

Mick grew up in Fort Garry and after some years of living in St. Vital, moved back to the “hood”. He worked as a sales rep at Canadian Tool & Die for over 40 years, traveling extensively within Canada and the USA.

Mick had a passion for golf. There was nothing better than a morning on the golf course with friends. Most weekends and vacations were spent at LacLu, Ontario. After retiring, he spent most of the summer there. He spent a good part of the winter down south, falling in love with Huatulco, Mexico. He loved the heat and had a large “family” of friends. He was well known for his Jello shooters.

Mick was a long-time member of the Fort Garry legion. He often attended the meat draws and “Chase the Ace”. He also supported the Winnipeg Humane Society. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or CancerCare Manitoba.

Many thanks to Dr. Rittberg, Tamara, the rest of the CancerCare staff, all of the staff at St. Boniface ER that took care of him, and Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Mick's life, accessible through the 'tributes' link at the bottom of this obituary.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
