JOAN CLAIRE NEILL
Joan Claire Neill (nee Taylor) passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was 84 years young. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Doreen Taylor, husband Murray and son Brian.
Joan was born on January 26, 1940 in Swan River, Manitoba leaving to attend Winnipeg General School of Nursing where she graduated with her Nursing degree in 1963. She had the honour of attending her 60th Nursing School Reunion in 2023.
Once graduated, she worked in Norway House, Manitoba where she met her husband Murray whom she married on May 1, 1965. Joan and Murray were blessed with three children, Brian (Shauna) 1968, Susan (Tony) 1970 and Cheryl (Wes) 1972.
Murray’s job with Hudson Bay Company provided the opportunity to reside in many towns in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba before settling in Winnipeg in 1989. Once established in Winnipeg, Joan started working for Charleswood Medical Clinic where after 25 years she retired in 2005.
Joan loved her days at the family cabin located at Madge Lake, Saskatchewan creating many special memories with friends and family until Murray’s death in 2008.
Joan filled her retirement years reading, walking and weekly coffee time with friends.
Her favourite activity was spending time playing cards and baking with her seven grandchildren, Liam and MacKenzie (Brian), Jordana and Taylor (Susan) and Kendra, Caitlyn and Daniel (Cheryl).
Grandma, you will be dearly missed by the grand crew. When at home you would find Joan reading in her lazy boy chair with her cat, Ludwig, curled in her lap.
The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia and St. Boniface hospitals for their kindness and compassion in Joan’s final hours.
The family will be having a private Celebration of Life later this year.
In lieu of flowers, donations memorial may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

On behalf of the WGH/HSC Nurses’ Alumni we extend our sincere condolences to Joan’s family and friends on her recent passing. I am sure that Joan cherished the opportunity to gather with her nursing classmates at their 60th reunion in May 2023 and to renew old friendships and to reminisce about their training days. She will be missed. - Posted by: Carol Galbraith (Friendship Convenor Winnipeg General Hospital/ Health Sciences Centre Nurses’ Alumni) on: Mar 11, 2024

Sincere condolences to all of Joan's family. We met 11 years ago at a weight watchers meeting and have been friends ever since. I will miss our weekly coffee get together and our monthly or so Pedicures that we enjoyed, after which we usually went out for lunch and our chats on the phone. I will miss my friend. - Posted by: Gail Ashuk (Friend) on: Mar 10, 2024
