Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK ARTHUR CHAPMAN
Jack passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024. He was born November 26, 1940, at the family home in Morse Place, East Kildonan. He was 83.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Art Chapman, his brother Les, and sister-in-law Flora. He is survived by his brother Bob (Enid), nephew Mark, niece Robyn (Justin) and grandniece, Natalie. Jack was a special brother and cherished uncle.
Jack worked for the Customs and Excise Department (now called Canada Border Services Agency) for nearly 36 years, retiring in July 1995. As a Customs and Excise Officer, he worked the US border and the Winnipeg Airport, but spent most of his career working in the Winnipeg Post Office inspecting foreign parcels coming through the mail.
Jack loved fishing. He owned a cottage at Pointe du Bois, which he graciously shared with his brother Bob and his family. For almost 60 years, from the opening of fishing season in early May to mid-September, you could find him on Saturday and Sunday mornings fishing with Bob. Jack seldom spent a week at the lake, except for when his fishing friends would come out in mid-June. Come fall, he would fish for 'greenbacks' on the Red River near Selkirk. Over the years he caught several Master Angler fish, three of which are mounted on the cottage wall.
His family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Place for the love, compassion and care they gave Jack.
Cremation has taken place and as per his wishes, no service will be held. His remains will be interred beside his parents in the spring.
Donations in Jack's name may be made to the Concordia Foundation, 1095 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8 or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
