JAMES (JIM) HOARD

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, son and grandpa, Jim Hoard. He passed peacefully on February 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer. Jim was 64 years old.

Jim was born on June 26, 1959 to Ed and Sadie Hoard in Fort Frances, Ontario. At the age of 10, the Hoard family relocated to Pinawa, Manitoba where he completed school and later became a dedicated member of the town’s workforce. After the loss of his father, Jim purchased the family home where he and his wife Kathy would settle and raise their two children, Dan and Courtney.

From a very early age, Jim loved hunting and fishing alongside his father. When he wasn’t following his dad around, he enjoyed finding ways to annoy his sisters, which came naturally to him as a playful and mischievous young boy.

Jim’s passion for the outdoors only grew throughout his lifetime. He found solace and joy in nature, spending countless hours hunting and fishing. Transforming his passion into a career, he founded his own outfitting business. Hoards Hunting Camps drew hunters from across the US and beyond, all eager for a once-in-a-lifetime trophy bear hunt. In addition to his expertise and work ethic, Jim’s boisterous and brash personality was a highlight that always kept customers entertained and coming back.

Jim possessed an unwavering determination and occasional stubbornness, but he also had the biggest heart. He was generous and loyal, always ready to share his experiences and advice with his loved ones. His incredible sense of humour, infectious laugh, and love for food brought joy to every gathering he attended. Jim’s magnetic charisma and captivating storytelling will be dearly missed.

Jim is survived by his two children, Dan (Lee-Ann) and Courtney (Joey); his adoring grandsons, Levi and Callum; his mother Sadie, as well as his two sisters, Connie (Ward) and Carol. Jim is predeceased by his father Ed Hoard.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at GB2 at Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care of Jim in his final days. They would also like to express their sincerest appreciation to the staff at CancerCare, namely Dr. Harlos, Marisa, Dr. Dayyat, and Stephanie, for their unwavering support and care of Jim.

A celebration of Jim's life will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba, in honour of Jim's memory.
