GERMAINE LOUISE GOUGEON
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mom, nana, granny, auntie and friend, Germaine Louise Gougeon, at the age of 83, on March 23, 2024, at her home in Gimli, Manitoba.
Germaine is survived by her three daughters, Dawna (late Tim), Diane and Darlene (Dave); her grandchildren, Jesse (Kate), Morgen (Becky), Kaila, Cameron, Matt (Becca), and Amanda (Justin), as well as her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hunter, and Austin.
Germaine was predeceased by her parents, Louie and Margaret Gougeon (Danchuk); brothers, Larry and Richard; ex-husband Roy Brophy; and son-in-law Tim Graham.
Germaine loved life and lived it to the fullest. She found wonder in nature at every turn and documented it all in her photos and her writing. She was proud to have worked for the provincial government, in various positions and concluding her career, in the securities department for the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission until her retirement in 2000.
Germaine moved to Gimli in 2000 and immersed herself in the community. She joined as many clubs, leagues, and boards as she could fit in. If you wanted to have a day with my mom, you would have to call well in advance so she could find a day that was clear. But if it was time with her family, she would clear her schedule in a heartbeat.
Germaine loved to travel and has experienced many adventures. She was proud to say she visited every province and territory in Canada. She travelled all over the world, though her greatest treasure was her trip to Kenya on a month-long photo safari. From this trip, came award winning photos and her first published book Sensory Overload.
Germaine was an avid photographer and writer. These passions afforded her winning many awards for her work. She was a born storyteller and went on to write more books on her life’s experiences and even a children’s book.
She always said she lived the most extraordinary life and that she was so profoundly grateful.
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Germaine’s Celebration of Life, come and go, will be held between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Gimli New Horizons, 17 N Colonization Rd., Gimli, MB.
In lieu of flowers and cards, she would want you to walk in nature and spend time with the ones you love and cherish them dearly.
The family expresses gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Germain's life, accessible through the 'tributes' link at the bottom of this obituary.
