With heavy hearts, we announce that Lena passed away on April 6, 2024, in Winnipeg at the age of 84.
She is survived by her four children, Carla, Shawn (Shannon), Greta, and Andrew Pauls; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Mary Hewlett; niece and nephews, Edward Hewlett (Sarah) and their four children, Pete Hewlett (Naomi), Heather Mellenger (Andrew) and their two children; as well as extended family and friends.
The family expresses gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Lena Pauls’ life, accessible through the ‘tributes’ link at the bottom of this obituary.
A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Site 5 in St. Vital Park (190 River Road). There will be a white tent visible at the site, faspa will be served and parking is directly in front of the site.

Quite by accident I found Lena’s obituary today as I was researching family history. I feel so very sad to hear this news. Growing up as a teenager, I became a babysitter for Lena and Dietrich’s (my cousin) children who I really loved and cared for occasionally. I respected and admired Lena and her love for her children. Then life changed in their family dynamics and that ended my relationship as a babysitter but not my love for Lena and her children. The five of you stayed in my heart throughout my life. So today I mourn the loss of your Mother-a lovely human being, and wish you her children Carla, Shawn, Greta, and Andrew my condolences. I felt a loss back then and again today. Henry and I would like to express our sincerest condolences to the family. We used to worship together at Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship and have good memories of those times.
