With deep sorrow, we announce that Peter Hamilton Sainsbury, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away at the age of 95.

I met Pete in the late '70s while working on the DEW Line at Fox Main (Hall Beach, NWT). Our respective offices were located in the HQ building. As the Petroleum, Oil, & Lubricants (POL) Specialist for the DEW Line, he was often away visiting the varioius sites, especially during the annual Sea Lift (and Air Lift for the land locked sites). I still have a couple of photographs he gave me, taken from one of the refueling ships he was on, of a pod of Polar Bears swimming out on the Arctic Ocean, miles from land. When he was at home base we had many interesting conversations about life and especially travel. He was a great conversationalist, had a wonderful sense of humor, and always seemed to have a smile on his face. He even let me "help" him a couple of times to dip the fuel storage tanks at Fox Main.
