DONALD NICK SMERECHYNSKI

1952 - 2024

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Nick Smerechynski at his home on April 21, 2024 at the age of 71.

He is survived by his wife Dale and his three siblings, Malloy, John (Dawnna) and Lana (Mark), as well as niece Courtney and nephew Robert. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary, his brother William and sister-in-law Linda.

Don was born in Red Lake, ON as his father started his career as a miner after the Second World War. After a few years, the family moved to Elma, MB where his father and mother owned and operated the general store. Don helped out in many areas of the store which developed his entrepreneurial skills.

Don devoted his career to the transportation industry, starting with a few trucks hauling gravel, mail and developing into a larger transportation company. Before retirement, Don downsized to being an owner-operator for a local transportation company.

He was a joyful, caring man with a heart of gold. Don loved his family and took pleasure in making everyone laugh and smile with his jokes and stories. He was very generous with his family, friends and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Don loved and cherished his wife, Dale. Throughout the years, they enjoyed taking care of their family of dogs, many activities/events and working together. One of his favorites was attending movie releases. Don loved cheering and watching the Blue Bombers and was a season ticket holder for many years. He regularly attended Grey Cups in various cities meeting other like minded fans across the country.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hadashville Recreation Centre.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.

May God welcome you into his kingdom

with ultimate peace and love!

You will live in our hearts and prayers,

until we meet again.
