It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Clara de Vries on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Clara was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Loudina Hekman, her brother Harm Hekman, and nephew Brian Hekman.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 65 years, Herman; sons, John (Jean), Jack (Mary Ellen), daughter Diana (Jim); grandchildren, Melody (Dan), Tiffany, Ryan (Brianne), Kevin (Tia), Tara (Noah), Nicole (Derek), Shawn, as well as great-grandchildren, Colton, Liam, Declan, Isaac, and Ethan.
Clara was born on June 23, 1937, in Nieuwe Pekela, The Netherlands. In 1954, she immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in Winnipeg. Learning English came naturally to Clara, and soon she was employed as a nurse’s aide. In 1958 she married Herman, whom she spent 65 years of marriage with.
Clara was a great homemaker, raising three children. She was a loving wife, mother, and Oma. She enjoyed music, singing, and loved spending time with her friends and family. Clara never forgot a birthday, always remembering to make a call or send a card to everyone that she knew. Her family and friends were incredibly special to her.
The family would like to thank the many nurses and medical personnel at Golden West Lodge who provided Clara care and compassion over the last several years.
Cremation has taken place, and Clara’s family has gathered privately to celebrate her life.

Herman and Family, I was saddened to hear of Clara's passing and send sincere condolences. It was always great to see Clara, her big smile and welcoming ways were so much part of her. I remember a last visit at her home before she moved into the care home. My Mom and sister and I had a proper cozy tea with her, all the best china and surrounded by pictures of her family, of which she spoke so fondly. Even when she was in discomfort she would make an effort to come to see her friends for coffee at Walmart. RIP Clara. Connie and Paul Hebert. - Posted by: Connie van Loon (friend) on: May 18, 2024

My condolences to Herman and family. Clara shared the dining table with my father, Reuben, during her time at Heritage Lodge. She shared great stories about her family and it was a pleasure to have known her and Herman. - Posted by: Vivian Palsson (Friend) on: May 18, 2024
